ESPN ranking

IMHO hard to disagree with any of the rankings or the comments. Obviously just one person's opinion (in our case, Philippou was the writer commenting on all the UConn players), but it's an interesting write up and list for sure. At least it gives us something to talk about, dissect, and possible complain about, leading up to the NCAA's! Glad they acknowledged Paige's possibvle 50-40-90 stats.

Paige #2 Bueckers will be appearing in her last NCAA tournament with her sights set on finally clinching a national championship. She wasn't as prominent in the national player of the year race this season after UConn struggled in some big nonconference games, but the 2021 NPOY has continued to be a hallmark of efficiency this season: She's one free throw away from a 90% clip from the line, which would give her a 50-40-90 season, and is tops in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio. Bueckers also showed an aggressive mentality of putting the team on her back offensively during the Big East tournament, the sort of mindset coach Geno Auriemma wants her to embrace for the rest of March. -- Alexa Philippou

Sarah #9 This season, Strong quickly established herself not only as the best freshman but one of the best players in the country, a Swiss Army knife-type who has already earned comparisons to Maya Moore and Breanna Stewart. She leads the Huskies or comes in second in the major statistical categories, and she has already taken over big games despite her youth. With Bueckers ending her college career in the coming weeks, there's no doubt that Strong is the heir apparent as UConn's next superstar. -- Philippou

Azzi #17 Fudd's seasonlong stats might not pop off the page. But she showed she's capable of an offensive outburst against top competition last month at South Carolina, with a game-high 28 points on 6-for-10 shooting from beyond the arc. After sitting out all but two games last season because of an ACL injury, Fudd will be playing in her first NCAA tournament since 2023, when Ohio State stunned the Huskies in the Sweet 16. But if the Fudd we saw in Columbia shows up now, the Huskies will be difficult to beat. -- Philippou

1. If Azzi can average 28 for the tournament, I like our chances!❤️
2. If Aubrey can stay healthy for the tournament, I like our chances!♥️
3. If Paige and Sarah can give us 20 & 10 ( assists & rbds.) I like our chances!
4. If we can get a combined 16 & 12 from Jana and Ice, I like our chances!
5. If we get 27-12-10 combined from K.,A.,& KK, I like our chances! ❤️
6. If we can just stay healthy for the tournament, I like our chances! ♥️
7. Actually, I just like our chances!
8. I love this team!❤️

I shook my head at putting Harmony Turner at #25.
Personally, I thought Harmoni Turner had a good year and
exceptional IVY MADNESS tournament leading Harvard to
(mild) upsets over Princeton with Harmoni scoring 44 points
and then 20+ (?) points over Columbia in the Championship game.
Harvard was the # 3 seed. She was also the
IVY WBB MVP and an HONORABLE MENTION on the
AP AA team. Did you mean that she should not have
been listed as the best representative for the IVY LEAGUE or
that she should not have been list at all? I will be watching to
see if Harmoni and Harvard (#10 seed) can continue their upset run over
Michigan State (# 7 seed). If she does it again for the Crimson, she
will have earned the # 25 designation (IMHO), if she doesn't she
still had a very nice year. BYW... Harmoni was also one of the 10
semifinalists for the HOOPHALLAWARDS' Nancy Lieberman Award
(PG category) along with Paige Bueckers, Georgia Amoore, Hailey Van
Lith, Rori Harmon, Olivia Miles, etc. etc. She is in good company.
She also comes across very well in interviews.

Did you think I meant she should be even lower?

I wouldn't take Juju over Paige, I wouldn't take Booker or Morrow over Sarah and I wouldn't take a lot the players over Azzi. The fact of the matter is UConn has the best players and if they play to their potential they will win the NC. If Aubrey isn't healthy it will take a little more from Ash but no matter what they are way ahead of where they were the last couple tournaments.

The mystery for me is what will Jana and Ice do in this tournament? If they come out and play like they can it will certainly get the excitement up again for next year.

No. I was not thinking of any numerical ranking. It was my misunderstanding due to the possible diverse meanings of: "I shook my head at putting Harmony Turner
at # 25" (thread #3). I added my comments because
I also fell in love with Harmoni's "spirit" and "grit" when in an interview of her
(after the Crimson's win over Princeton, 70-67), Harmoni responded to a
question about her motivation for her records (5) breaking performance:
" I took those previous losses (to Princeton and Columbia in the
regular IVY season) PERSONAL!!" She said it with her (somewhat) twangy
Texas accent! Quite the smile of satisfaction! Go Harmoni! Help the
Crimson UPSET Michigan State! (note: I have nothing against MSU!!)
I hope we can be in harmony on many things...especially UCONN WBB!
