Alterique Gilbert on KO: "Coach Ollie is different from other coaches - he genuinely cares about you and your family's best interest. He wants to truly maximize not only your on-court talents and abilities, but he also wants to help build men that'll someday have a family, wife and kids. We all know he's a great coach, but I know he's a better individual before anything."

Sharman White (Gilbert's coach) on KO: “He’s universal in his presentation as a coach. His character speaks volumes to the players he recruits, along with those he has to recruit with the players, such as parents and coaches. You feel as if you are getting truth and at the level he has competed and coached, it is hard not to be sold on that.”

It blows my mind how many people get this wrong:

It also doesn’t hurt that UConn is one of the best programs in the sport; the Huskies have won four titles in the past 16 years and produced an impressive list of NBA players.

The 1999 season through the 2015 season is 17 seasons. 4 titles in 17 years is still fantastic, so we don't need to exaggerate it.

Exactly. Need to straighten it out so that people say 5 in 18 years and not 5 in 17 years.
Won't change the point that PN will have 2 and JB only 1 however.

Wow powerful stuff from both. Alterique - "He wants to truly maximize not only your on-court talents and abilities, but he also wants to help build men that'll someday have a family, wife and kids. We all know he's a great coach, but I know he's a better individual before anything."

PN, as in Phil Nolan? He only has one Championship in 2014. Think you meant TO (Tyler Olander) has 2 Championships, along with Giffey & some other dude I think who went by Shabazz. ;)

If you read my post I'm doing a @scrappy2.0 and declaring he gets an NC this season giving him numero dos which in any language will be more than the nose picker. This is a scrappy 2.0 prediction but with a "now we are DOOOOOMMED" caveat. Can you tell I'm excited about the upcoming season.

Yeah, but if you say right now that UConn has won 4 in the past 16 years, it's not true. Right now it's 4 in the past 17.
That's true, just pointing out UConn had won 4 titles in 16 years not saying the last 16 years anymore but 4 in a 16 year span or 25% is impressive nonetheless.

Obviously it's still impressive, but that's not what the article said, and it's a mistake often made.

I missed that quote somehow, but if people want to keep thinking we've won 25% of the past 17 titles etc I'm ok with that;).

On March 29, 1999 UConn defeated Dook 77-74 for our first national championship.
On April 7, 2014 UConn defeated Kentucky 60-54 for our most recent national championship
There were 5,488 days (-5 leap year days) between these events / 365 = 15.02192 years.
UConn won 4 national championships in 15 years + 8 days, 15 years if you are measuring by years.

If you want to talk college basketball seasons (or academic school years) as your definition of time such as 1998-99 season or 2015-16 season then obviously the metric changes and its 4 in 16 seasons. But if you write UConn won 4 national championships in 15 years you are off by 8 measly days.

I guess. But there were 16 National Championship games in that timeframe. So for arguments sake let's say UConn won all 16 of them. Would you say UConn won 16 National Championships in 15 years?

Yes, if you are using the terminology of years. For example in 2016 the women's national championship game is on April 5th and last year UConn won the national championship on April 7th, so soon you will be able to say UConn won 2 national championships in less than a year.
