Eric Reibe appreciation Thread

Let me put this out there to derail this thread with a Black Friday take.

"This team is better with Riebe starting and Reed coming off the bench ".
Why are so many folks resistant to the fact that this kid is way better than most expected? It was evident in that U-20 FIBA tournament. Calling for him to start wouldn't bother me as much as those that have already started nit-picking his game.

Suggesting he starts is redonkulous.

Yesterday was a good matchup for him as he got to go up against a bunch of soft euro bigs. He played with/better than Ivisic. 4 offensive rebounds and 2 blocks being the difference.

You may be right. But @Waquoit may be right too. There is no way to have Eric figured out after 2 starts (3 games with major minutes)
We whiff constantly when we make snap judgements based on small sample sizes. (A good majority of us wrote Smith off after Arizona- one week later it's his world?)

I'm starting to think every match up will be a good match up for him. We've established he has a high floor. Where is his ceiling? This could be very much fun.

For this team, Tarris 100% is the guy we want out there. He brings the toughness & presence in the paint this team needs.

Need to see a bit more from him as it comes to rim protection & rebounding. He was great yesterday.

Hurley is the best roster designer in the game along with Painter. May seems to know what he’s doing too.

Last year was an outlier, as you’re seeing how hard it is for a coach who wins an NC to catch up on the portal with Golden.
UConn having Cam fall into their lap was what allowed for the repeat. Caught a nice break.

Big fan of Aidan the person, but give Hurley a second chance at that opening and the season might have felt very different.

Reibe doing everything you could have hoped for him early on as a freshman. Growing by the game. And it is still November.

The story of this season is going to be about health.

7’ dudes can have a much bigger impact sooner than 6’7” wings just being able to block and rim protect.

Furphy gets overlooked with his position depth so next year is his year to shine.

Totally - Castle was already wrapped up in advance, Cam was truly luck of the half irish. The rest of that team was all returners. That roster didn't require much work. 2025 required a ton of work, and we only went with 2 guys in the portal and both felt like they were one of two selections we were exploring (Tarris and the Rutgers kid, Mahaney & Brea).

Reed is going to struggle to get to 100%. Hammy and ankle are going to be with him for the season unless Hurley willing to do a 100% shutdown, which is not feasible at this point.
How do you know this? Are you a doctor who has examined Reed? This is your opinion.

AllHusky real life name = Doogie.

A big won't suffer from some lingering ankle/hammy stuff as he's not exactly sprinting/cutting like a guard would. He'll be fine.

And if we have to rest him, we can probably win all of our BE games sans StJ without him, so we'll have 3 months :).

So terrible he was invited to the McDonald’s AA Game? What is he talking about?
I don't know about the de-committing stuff as Dauster likes to ramble but Adam Finklestein from 247 did also say that Reibe had a down senior season and those teams are pretty much selected based off what you did in the spring/summer before your senior season.

Appreciate the staff for allowing us to have this conversation year after year:

Carlton and (or) Sanogo
Sanogo and (or) Clingan
Clingan and (or) Johnson
Johnson and (or) Reed
Reed and (or) Reibe

Sheesh.
Spoiled and entitled.

It is not an either/or choice. They are both going to play. And both will get significant minutes. I don't understand the 100% stuff. What does that even mean?

Someone mentioned Reibe starting and Tarris coming off the bench. Couldn't disagree with that more. The right blend here is still going to be Reed on the floor the large majority.

One of the few times when a player's injury (Reed) was a blessing, especially the timing. Reibe has become a Man and knows he belongs in Div 1.

Gotta love confident freshman and you know Reed will keep Reibe's head up.
Not only is that true, but if we focus out even further, Mullins' injury helped allow Jayden Ross the reps and opportunity to play the best ball of his career.

Obviously, we never want anyone to be hurt, it's one silver lining. This team's got real title potential.

I hope so. I think he has real talent. But it’s such a long season when you aren’t playing and in this era, that usually means bye bye

If we can go out and win the rest of these OOC games, I think the time afforded Reibe & Ross could only help in the long term. To think we were that close to pulling out AZ. Although, if we win the rest, that loss could prove to be valuable.

This is well ahead of things, but when UConn is in the portal looking for a backup for their sophomore center, the partial use of twin towers is how you entice someone of quality to take the role as then both centers can get starter minutes.

And at that point you aren't forcing Alex Karaban to the bench.

Looking forward to that first game where we're 100% healthy and/or can put two halves of solid BB together. Have the depth up and down the bench to make winning plays at closing time. Kinda sounds familiar.

You wonder if Hurley would ever use against a team like Florida - doubtful, because it tends to disadvantage us on offense and we lose the QB in AK.

Why are you creating a false narrative?

It really does sound like total bull. You throw that out there you have to allude to some sources.
Meh, its Dauster. I put very little into most of what he says. Maybe its true, maybe its not or maybe the truth is somewhere in the middle. I see him more as an opinion man than a guy in the know.

Reibe has been good & I think it only gets better with the extra time he’s got when Reed was out
I can see the coaches gaining confidence in him every game
Love that he’s avg 2 blks per
Definitely love that he attempted 2 3s w/ confidence last game too (even tho 1 was blocked)
He’s just gotta keep going as he is get stronger & he’s gonna be solid all season long

I don’t think anyone is pretending he’s a starting caliber center on an elite team at this point. But how quickly and how well he could transition to the college game was a big question mark for this squad and so far he’s probably better than anyone could have reasonably expected 7 games in. He clearly still has deficiencies that he needs to work on, but his progress is very encouraging.
I guess I'm one of the ones that's pretending because didn't he lead in scoring one game? when you say not a starting center, maybe not for us at this point, but there are a lot of teams that he could be starting for division one.
