I was thinking why don’t I remember who this standout player is?
Me too.... When I heard the news and saw the name, I immediately thought "walk on". I guess I'm not as big a 50 year fan as I think I am.

So sad.

Rest in peace to the mother, first and foremost.

This is a great reminder of why I love Hurleys character scouting. He may have a couple knuckleheads, but I’ll be surprised if a Hurley recruit does something this tragic.

I mean schizophrenia doesn’t pick and choose based on character. We should withhold judgement without knowing the full story

This story has me really upset and sad the more I've read into it. His mother must've been so proud of him earning a basketball scholarship to a major University and it sounds like she was a really good person. There were so many warning signs though. The kid was kicked out of South Carolina partly due to an arrest and never should've been offered a scholarship by Ollie. He was suspended for 1 month at UConn for conduct detrimental to the team. He has a violent arrest history with one of the arrests assaulting a police officer.

It was just him living with his mother and neighbors said he was always violent with her and she was scared of him. She was just 51 years old and this never should've happened. It's so incredibly sad what happened to her.

And yet they still beat Syracuse that year.

I just looked at the roster. I don't even recognize some of the names.
Eric had a troubled past when UConn became desperate for players after graduation and desertion and recruits backing out of commitments. Or declared ineligible. We were in a real bind . There was no portal so getting enough guys to practice guys left little other option I called them NFL replacement players .
Cobb was big and strong but couldn’t defend a lick . He wasn’t bad offensively.
Our actual recruits were Carlton , Whaley , Polley all still very young kids and lowly rated . . The eight best class in the AAC . They’re all playing professionally.
Cobb’s claim to fame was he had a great offensive game against Cuse his second years under Hurley After that he disappeared . I don’t remember if he used up his eligibility or transferred
This is a tragedy and regardless of his past this is something he will have to live with .
A very sad event .

Perhaps Ollie was just taking a chance on Cobb and hoping he could help him. Kevin was from Compton. Calhoun took a chance with Caron and that turned out pretty well. I remember Toriano Walker from the Dream Season. He was a recruit of Calhoun. Not sure if there were any warning signs for Toriano but that story didn't end well as he was later incarcerated.

But sad story for Cobb and his late mother.

In almost all of the highlights UConn is losing. SMU, Tulsa, Cincinnati, Temple. Those were some dark days.
I counted 8 where UConn was up and 6 were against cupcakes. Ya, I went there.
