this is the best depth at qb we have ever had imho. i am very excited about that. i thinkCW keeps his job the next 2 years and i think hes going o be good for us, maybe only 2nd to dan o by his end here. going into the fall of 2015, the battle between CC, RL, TB and a 4th qb who will come from the 2014 class will be a lot of fun to read and watch that off seaon leading up to the fall. by them i hope we have atleast 1 beat writer who failry reports the competition...

Well, it seems that the beat writers are in love with with McCummings. Not sure if SM is working "under the table" ehh, err,....

well SM is a rs jr now. i think the plan is have him back up CW this fall but i think that may be it for him. next year we only have like 10 sr's but we have like 15 rs jr's. i think alot of those guys will not be coming back unless they are high on depth cahrts. i think hats whats going on...for him to stay means he passed CW or the staff views him next year as still way above our other 3 young qbs. i dont see either of those happening...

CC could very easily give CW a run for his money. They are similar size. CC might have a better more accurate arm. And CW did little to convince he could move smoothly through his progression. Experience counts for a lot. But the job doesn't get handed to CW.

Did people forget that Coach DeLeone is still coaching the Offensive Line? Before we get to 2014, The focus now should be on the Big (if not undersized) Uglies up front and keeping our QBs upright.

Typically need more than 3.5 seconds on a consistent basis. That line that he was forced to work with was attrocious. The job is Whitmer's to lose. I'm not saying he keeps it, but he goes into the Spring taking the majority of the snaps with the 1st team.

I actually have this hope that he motivates the livin' bejeezus out of the line. If he can work with them, focus on them, and coach them up like he did for Griffin, then he can be a great asset to the program.

We all agree that the 'Mad Paper-Hanger' was not good for us as OC. But if he can coach up the line, and implement what Weist needs, we may get a lot of milage from his experience.

Half full. My bourbon is half full. Nope, needs a refill.

RL quotes via Dez:

"I needed the extra time because it's one of the biggest decision I'll ever make in my life," Lagow said by text message. "It's not just a four- or five-year decision, it's a 40- or 50-year decision. So I had to be 100 percent sure it was the place for me. .. I will be coming in the summer, I'm not sure the exact date, but whenever the rest of the guys move in is when I will, too."

Lagow said he is ready for the competition at quarterback.

"Competition is a good thing," he said. "The extra time I needed had nothing to do with competition. The other QB's are all good at what they do, so it will be a fun experience to be around them and compete with them. We will be supportive of each other because we will respect each other. I look forward to it."

Did you just say more than 3.5 seconds? No way. 3 seconds should be it. Get the ball out of your hands.

The goal should be at least 4, especially in college ball.

I'm so jacked up thinking about the quality depth that we have at QB that we've sorely lacked since Orlovsky. April 20th can't come fast enough to assess at least part of the crew!

HFD.... You think CW will be as good as Danny O? NFW. He starts next year out of obligation and is replaced. Either the Xavier boy or Texas Dick supplants him. Chandler slings idearm. THE 2 coming in this year have cannons.

That's not what we saw in the spring game last year. Cochran's arm strength seemed to be on par with Whitmer's, not a cannon but good enough to get the job done if he makes a quick read and gets the ball out. Think Chad Pennington or Jeff Garcia.

Last time I felt this good about the QB spot was 2009 when Endres, Frazer, and Box were all competing. I'm in wait and see mode.

As long as there is a clear cut leader of the pack at QB this summer so that the 1's all get acclimated I'll be happy with having the other 3 nipping at his heels. The center and the receivers need to be one with whoever is behind center well before the Towson game. That's the only way we stand a chance against Michigan.

CW did enough last season given the play of the OLine to start spring as the #1.

He didn't do enough to lock the door and throw away the key. There is room for a competitor to overtake him.

Also, in no way, shape or form, can his concussions be overlooked. Brain injuries and their treatments are exponentially affecting the way you have for depth and game planning.

If Whitmer suffers a concussion next season, no chance he can practice, watch film or study for the next week's opponent.

College football is very quickly getting to the point where you need three competent QB's ready for every game during the season.

Right now for Uconn it's most likely Whitmer, Cochran and McCummings being prepped each week.

I wouldn't be shocked if Cochran starts at least one game next season. And he'd be starting as a RS Frosh.

I think this is fair. But if Cochran starts, it will be due to injury I bet. Whitmer was the winner of the job by far last year.

I will be shocked (absent injury) if anyone other than CW is under center to start the season. I think the news on getting McCummings ready as a full fledged reserve and out of the wildcat role is a good decision. The hope will be that with SM and CC there will be adequate reserves / depth to redshirt the frosh.

If one of the true frosh blows up and makes a serious run at starting then we'll have something potentially very special. That scenario is just so very, very rare that I don't expect it.

If the coaches can help it at all, all 3 freshmen should redshirt.

Agree. Need to hit the weight room, learn the play book and college life. Ideally all freshmen should red shirt.

lol, I'm just seeing this now. So he's coming after all. Ironic that if was hesitating due to QB competition, his hesitation put another QB in the class. I'm very glad to have him aboard but the signing day drama makes me wonder if he is going to become the football version of Alex Oriaki.

Well let's assume the best. If he and his family are "all in" he'll be very successful here.

Most schools bring in two QBs every year. After a while it becomes obvious who will the the job and one or sometimes both move on.

How many QBs were on Texas A&M before Johnnie Football showed up? They still brought in two 4-star QBs this year.

Correct. How many QBs does it take to replace Dan O? . . . . At least 7 if none of these six can perform like a good BCS QB. Numbers alone don't solve the problem? HOWEVER, this is a huge step in the right direction. Finally fixing this position is a must and long overdue. CW show a glimmer of hope. Let's hope he can improve enough to really be the answer to the MIA since '04 UConn passing game. This is really encouraging news though.
