Entering the portal - 2026

I don't know what the NCAA is thinking. It will be absolute chaos if they approve this fifth year at this point. And it would benefit programs like Kentucky that are having a miserable time building their roster but have a boatload of money to spend.

As unfair it might be to the current seniors, if the NCAA decides to do this, they should start it next year. In my opinion, they should leave it to just 4 years, but maybe allow a fifth year for players who played a third or less of a year during one of their initials 4 years in college. That at least opens a window for some late bloomers who weren't able to take advantage of all four years regardless of the reason (including injuries). Even though I'm proposing that idea I'm not sure if I even like it. It's going to be very interesting to see how all this plays out in combination with litigations and/or some sort of governmental intervention.
 
So essentially, a team that’s using the portal effectively and runs out of NIL gets screwed while a team that has sucked, can clean up with fifth year seniors? The NCAA, the portal, NIL, and everything else is just absolutely asinine.

Glad SJU isn’t getting them but that doesn’t change the fact that we won’t either

Same goes for Tounde Y. Apparently We’re going after a backup CG PF and C, not a starting C or starting SF.

Yeah your probably right but I am still holding out hope for Diop with big bro Bobby connected…Diop would be a great 5/ stretch 4 so he and Hines could each play 25… I’ll keep dreamin lol

Spot on assessment of Duke, look at the year before with 3 top ten picks including Coop and Kon starting and no ring… some of it is also Sheyer in game decisions …..
 
Not in the portal this year but this kid is going to be a curiosity for many people over the next few years. There’s video in the websphere of Galbut dominating AAU tournaments last summer. I think a lot of D1 schools didn’t bother because they assumed he would just play at Yeshiva. Legit player.

I’m fascinated by how this will work. Presumably he both won’t play and won’t travel on the sabbath. Not an issue at Yeshiva since they schedule around that but obviously will impact him at Duquesne.

Do not know the answer to this question but could be part of his decision making process re: even considering UConn-Did Diop even enjoy his Hurley experience with Bobby? Dan is no less intense than Bobby. Strikes me as the kind of player that wants to be the guy-Not sharing PT with another guy. I think Dan is pretty comfortable with his Hines decision. Is Diop a player? Absolutely. My two cents

He has budgeted money for one of them, his statement was regarding seniors who may be eligible to come back if a fifth year is granted. I think Respole would pony up if Zuby wanted to come back another year.

I think slick rick is sweating bullets as all those competitive signings would be all for nothing if in fact those seniors that do not end up in NBA draft hierarchy end up available and those programs with money left in NIL end up more competitive aka threat.

First thing that came to mind for me. The last time this happened was in the late 90s with Tamir Goodman and his Maryland offer and then when he committed at Towson. It didn’t go well.

With the players returning he probably sees a chance of going higher, a CBB player with the goal of actually playing in the NBA has become rare lol

I wonder how the NBA feels about this. You're probably getting guys who are more ready to play right away but they're now older and I'm sure the league wants some of these kids who look ready going to the league. My guess is they aren't too happy about it.
