Entering the portal - 2026

Two options:

Tell a kid he's going to have to work really hard in post op rehab and needs to be ready to go Day 1 of the season

OR

Tell same kid he'll be able to take his time and rehab properly, work on all the little things he needs to, continue to make money, and come back for a Super Senior season.

Pros and cons to both, but I would imagine Ball knows how tough it was to keep it together this year and play hurt, and may not want any hint of that for his last year and choose option 2.
Hate to keep bringing this up but the majority of injuries outside of Tarris were to Silas, Ball and Mullins. All guys charged with driving to the hoop. Alex also got pretty hammered but managed to survive or play through. Maybe Dan Hurley and our AD (with tapes) will get some sympathy on reffing with a new League president now that Val (at the top of Everest) is stepping down. It is and has been a real problem. At the same time it will keep Danny's BP down.

Now that Val has entered the portal herself - I say good riddance to the worst major college league commissioner ever.
Don't let that door hit you in the arse as you leave honey
Now- time to get rid of a certain referee.............................................................................................................................................

I remember when Jaden Winston first signed with Manhattan, John Gallagher told me when I previewed the team over the offseason that he was shocked that he committed to Jaspers.

That was back when conferences like the MAAC were starting to get better than usual freshmen due to these caliber of players getting overlooked due to the portal getting stronger.

Long story short, I'd like Winston as the backup for this year with a chance of him taking over the starting reigns as a senior, should he earn that.

Speed reminds me of Boat.

What is your definition of short term money? The median net worth in CT households is $250,000.
If you make half a mil in NIL and it pays for your mom and little brother to move into a safe neighborhood,
you have won.

That’s the thing - everyone talking about short term money and NBA second contracts, in many cases the future is unknown and NIL and the first contract are life changing. BM will make considerable dough next year as the face of the sport, and likely be drafted minimum 10 spots higher next year. That’s material.

surprised at this one, NIL money must be crazy right now because he's a guy expected to be drafted in the teens/late lottery. Florida's frontcourt will be strong once again

Great nickname this guy, Thomas "Hee" Haugh

Occam's razor applies here. We know that Ball was hurt (somewhat seriously). We know that the offense generated plenty of open shots for both Ball and Mullins. And we know that Mullins was also battling minor injuries almost all season and was prone to taking some ill-advised deep 3s. So you can either make 10 assumptions bout the two not mixing well, or you can make one assumption -- that what we know to be true was the the cause of the poor shooting.

I'll go with the latter -- Ball's shooting was due to injury, and Mullins' inconsistency was due to his own injuries and some poor shot selection.
Not withstanding the Duke shot, I thought the ill advised 3's were part of his arsenal. They just weren't dropping. I thought unlimited range was to be his calling card. Hurley never seemed to mind when he haul off from thirty five feet.

Sorry if I'm being pedantic, but the portal closes today.

So while we all have recommendations, do we "know" whether Dan Hurley is actually recruiting anyone in the portal, and, if so, who?

Heard he’s out in Amish country finding some Randy Quaid like studs on the cheap.

Sort of shockingly poor numbers last year, and I remember hearing he and his camp were difficult to deal with, but from a pure basketball standpoint I’d love to take a flyer on him. Can backup the 4 and 5 and has a ton of talent.

He had no numbers last year, could probably get him on the dirt cheap this year if he wasn't a distraction. Not sure what his deal is though - if he got that little time on a bad Ole Miss team with Beard, something has to be up. Will be curious to where he lands given no body of work. He initially committed to UW before flipping to Ole Miss. I think Ohio St was a suitor - guessing he's going to fall to some low end HM.

I know we're not shopping in the high end aisle anymore, but I wish we would for him. He's a stud and would open up some really fun switchable lineup combos
He's being mocked back end of first now.

This is exactly the kind of athlete that falls into the AJx/Castle bucket.

Also up Hurley s alley attitude wise

My only glimmer of hope is since we recruited him out of HS Hurley will want a redo. But realistically we'll probably just go with Landrew and Ross and a lesser backup wing/4

Is the right way to look at these low numbers, late portal entries that they are essentially being cut by their coach?

No. But who are you referring to? If it’s TY, he’s likely going through draft process vs seeing what NIL he can get. Would love him too but def not a priority.

Question - do incoming frosh have to portal or just decommit? I’d have to think something shakes loose at Duke.

My read is that they're just trying to keep their options open in case their team brings in a bunch of transfers over the next few weeks. Like the NBA Draft guys who enter with no real intention to transfer, but on the opposite end
