Entering the portal - 2026

.-.
You had a few typos, so I did a quick edit below.

At 12:20pm on April 11th, the Program is coming off its 3rd national championship game in 4 years. UConn is sending senior Alex Karaban, the most decorated college basketball player in the past few decades, to fulfill his dream of playing in the NBA. UConn is also sending senior Tarris Reed, who had one of the most dominant runs in the NCAA tournament into the NBA. Dan Hurley, who turned down a chance to coach the Lakers, laughed off a question asking him about his interest in UNC when it was vacant. Luke Murray gets a chance to fulfill his dream of being a head coach and Hurley gets to show that top assistants well get paid very well at UConn and will be sought after candidates for HC positions. Silas Demary is weighing his options to go to the NBA because he is good enough to play in the NBA and Will likely be back at UConn along with the face of college basketball Braylon Mullins. Speaking of NBA talent, UConn has one incoming freshman who Hurley has alluded to being wall potential (lottery pick). Hurley also said there are a lot of players in the portal who want to be part of the UConn program.

UConn is in a great position to compete for another title next year.

It isn't. Anything interesting to a UConn fan in there?
Unfortunately not. Feel like our staff is pretty tight lipped on these things usually.

I also wonder if they are waiting to see who’s staying in certain areas before turning the heat up on certain guys.

This is another example why I don't believe anything out there about what the players are asking for. I wonder if it's just agents spewing garbage trying to drive up the prices.

I hate this entire system. Makes me ill. I know, we're here so we have to compete but it still feels gross. If we're going to do this then at least have contracts. This free agency every year is not good. If I didn't like the Huskies so much I'd think about just not following college basketball any more.

Goodman is a plague on Fof68, besides just generally being an annoying and awkward person 95% of his talking points on their streams are just barking about NIL, who asked for this and what school is giving this. It's all just agents feeding him nonsense.

Kind of kid I don't understand not staying with AZ - tells me something is off in that Lloyd isn't doing his best to bring him back after a year in the system and his roster all going.

Wasn’t the staff looking at Aristode back in 2024 at Peach Jam? Did we ever offer him?

Have you been paying attention? Like half the players in D1 are going in the portal. Aristode didn't start and played 13 minutes a game. I'm sure he thinks he should have gotten more playing time and is not happy about it. Others could probably look at Eric Reibe entering the portal and think the same thing about UConn that you're thinking about Arizona. College basketball is upside down right now. There's a lot going on that doesn't make sense.

Or they are going to bring in someone who is already better. It’s legit to the point where anyone outside the top 25 players should not go to an elite team. Chances are you’ll sit year one, then be recruited over year two. You’re better off going to a “lesser”’power school, play and produce, then get paid elsewhere. It’s basically what Vaaks said. He purposely chose a team that wasn’t as good so he could get tons of time.

Speaking of Vaaks. Since Wagler has declared for NBA draft- Some recent noise about Vaaks to Illini.

The more I see the signings and availability of players in portal along with who we have on bench the more I think blowing our load to retain Mullins is a mistake! He is not gonna start as a 2 if Ball remains and the Landrew kid is one of the best small forwards in this class and is much bigger, tougher and athletic than Mullins as a 3… keeping Stewart and Ross Demary will cost less and we will have money to fill the 5 Diop or Hines and maybe also get a guy who can play 4 …and 5 in smaller lineup like the kid at Syracuse ….Also Furphy can play 2 or even 3 and is a versatile scorer and secondary ball handler who along with County can provide depth in the guard room …Retention and selective portal moves are how we have stayed at the top of the sport, I hope that continues and hope Mullins has great NBA career!

There have been multiple reports out that agents are calling around everywhere with inflated numbers.

I'll edit if I can find a link.

Played 2 years at X, then 2 years after. How does that work?

If I'm remembering right, he's a CT kid. Was a beast his sophomore year before leaving. Wonder if he ever learned how to shoot
Only played 12 games this year with a season ending injury so there's a chance he'll get a medical redshirt

And where do you get $$ for a pair of Centers, that’s the point no shade on Mullins just building a balanced team that can win it all ….

So much guessing it's not even worth trying until you see who is staying. No one knows the budget, the plan, who's staying. Pointless even thinking about it - have to put trust in the staff until more information is out.

Is Mullins back? Ball? Demary? Stewart?

As of now all we know is we need a 5 in the worst way. That is the only clear need. Stew could play 4, multiple options at the 2-3 if they return. I would think as of now staff is hustling for a 5.

I don't think anyone knows how much money we are willing or able to spend and how.much NIL we have to offer and to who. It's all just speculation. We have a limit but what that limit is is anyone's guess. Good players cost money. Unless you don't want good players then don't sweat it. Our staff is going to distribute what we have to offer the best way they see fit. My advice is to sit back and enjoy the show because it's not like you have any control over what happens anyway. The staff has information we don't.

Given that Landrew has never played a second of college basketball, thinking he’ll start over a guy who is a first round pick is a choice.
