Entering the portal - 2026

When thinking about Wilkins, people probably need to temper expectations. The starting backcourt next year is highly likely going to be Silas and Solo. Not sure this kid is taking a bench role with us.
Maybe take Mullins spot if he leaves Mullins 6-6. Wilkins 6-5

We added Reed with Samson. We added Clingan with Sanogo. We will add another top-tier big in the portal.

Whether or not Reibe was an All-American is currently meaningless. If we head into next season with him penciled as a starting center, something has gone very wrong. We need a starting-caliber big to push Reibe and the best man will win out. Two-headed monster. And frankly, Reibe has A LOT of work to do to be a 15-20mpg player at this point.
Not disagreeing that we need competition at center. But your examples don't reflect the current situation. Clingan was an incoming freshman who signed up for a two-year plan before going pro, and Johnson had one more year left and knew his role--and yet he still started his last season despite us bringing in Reed. We will definitely bring someone in at the 5 spot---I do not agree with others that it will be a top of the line star center who's going to command huge money.

He may not start but there will be starter minutes available off the bench unless we think Demary and Solo are playing 35 minutes a game.

What do you consider starter minutes? Under Hurley what 3rd guard has played more than 20 minutes off the bench?

Diarra played 19 and Alleyne played 18 off the bench. If Solo plays 25 and Demary 30 that’s 25 right there Wilkins can pull from.

I'm an 80s rock and punk kind of guy but I admit to having a few old timey appreciations, and I always listened to Mel and even bought some of his vinyl. His version of "They can't take that away from me..." has run through my head repeatedly over the years. I feel the same way about Hee Haw's Roy Clark. I told my Van Halen fanatic friends that Roy blows away Eddie (I'm not sure I ever really meant it) and it used to send them up the wall.
Heading upstate next weekend Upstater! Love me some Hee-Haw.

Compare Reibe’s performance this year as a backup to Reed’s last year as a backup and Clingans in 23 as a backup. Reibe has not locked down the starting C spot. We need a transfer C that can average at least 20mpg to split the time with him. We also currently need a starting PF and a backup PG.
Reibe didn't appear to toughen up as the stakes got higher.

Or Maybe it’s Reibe’s plans to be a 2 year player (if that’s even the case) that don’t reflect the current reality. Sometimes things don’t work out as planned.

Regardless, we’ve had 2 “big money” centers in the roster for the last 4 seasons so no reason to think that would change now

I dont want to just skip the backup plan but can definitely see Reibe being the guy next year, I think of Reibe next year the same way we thought of Johnson last year. Would just like some competition where we have two centers who are each capable of being the guy on any given night

Yeah, he really turned it around after a rough stretch in Big East play. He had a good start to the season and a strong finish. Definitely going to be missed.
He was pretty close to the ideal bench guard... Had an awesome year here. Wish we had him for longer.

Replacing Karaban is going to be truly impossible. Not necessarily from a talent or skillset point of view but everything we know about him off the court and how in tune he was with Hurley. It's going to be a new look team next year. I anticipate some ugly learning moments but have complete faith in the staff's direction.

Also, how we backfill Luke's role will probably give us a good indication of potential portal targets. Maybe Aidan Sherrell follows Preston Murphy here? Very curious to see how this plays out.

We've got a lot of work to do in the portal. Excited to see where we land.

Reibe cannot be the starter next year unless he makes a lot of progress. He’s a great complimentary piece to a more traditional big like Tarris but he doesn’t offer nearly enough rim protection, rebounding, or stretch 5 offensive capability yet. He also fouls like crazy. He has great hands, a developing post game, and will become a threat from 15-20ft eventually. He will get better, the question is will he have the patience to not be the de facto starter next year.

He's a 7 foot tall freshman. That takes time Clingan is the only exception that I've ever seen.

Where though? Not NBA.
He would hardly be the first guy to leave early and go in the back half of the second round. I would certainly take a flyer on a first team all-Big East guy coming off a natty appearance.

People here are pushing for top centers in the portal who I’m confident will cost far more than Samson did. I don’t see us operating in that tier, but we’ll see.

Is Malachi coming back next year? I read today he has an extra year of eligibility left. But that's the first time I heard that. Anyone know?

Reibe was roll playing, not the focus of our offense as he might be going forward.
I don't think offense is anyone's biggest concern with him, he couldn't hold up to any physicality on defense and was committing alot of dumb fouls due to his inability to hold his position. It was a complete 180 from the player who was able to hold his own vs Arizona, KU, Illinois, Florida earlier in the season.

Which suggests the potential is there, and the staff likely recognizes it— and unlike fans, they’re not rushing to replace him.
