First awards given in 1995 per wikipedia.
I'd say it's third in prestige behind the Oscar and Globe. Awards are for acting only, so it makes good TV. No screenplay or technical awards.

Actors revere the award as it is bestowed by their fellow SAG/AFTRA members. Oscars voters are a more widely distributed thought the industry.

The award statue itself is famously heavy.

No. Completely different.

Emmys are still every September. TV only.

They used to be known as the AARP awards.
