Perhaps he was inspired by South Tampa Bill's post?
Haha. He was actually playing well long before that. Really since right before Christmas, he's been very productive, averaging a shade over 11 points and 11 rebounds, with 10 double-doubles in 20 games (all while only averaging about 28 minutes). In the last 22 games, he's been in double figures in rebounding 15 times, with two nines, three eights and two sevens.
Not Springfield-worthy numbers, but certainly the type of production that would consider him a very valuable piece of a contender's puzzle, if he was on one. His contract at $12m per will prevent him from being traded, though. Someone like the Heat would fall over backwards to get him, but they have so much salary soaked up in their stars that they couldn't make a deal that works without either giving up Wade, or a package of six guys and draft picks, and neither is happening.
And the Wiz are actually playing well enough now that they can ponder being a playoff team next season, so they might want to keep him for the last year of his deal next year to see if they can make that leap. And if they don't, the old "expiring contract" trade bait makes him a valuable commodity.
