Emeka to Have Number Retired

jeez. just retiring everyone these days šŸ˜† (this is a joke, for the dense on the BY)

I think the Yankees are retiring Greg Caderet's # this year. Can't wait till AI Bob Shepard announces, "Now batting, #117, George Lombard, #117.

I'm too lazy to look it up, but what have they retired? If we're doing that thing, I'd hope it's #13, #32, #34, #42, and now, #50.

Ray, Rip and now Emeka

We're gonna run out of numbers
I was going to bring this up.

We don't have many "retired" numbers. Just Rip and Ray. I do think we've gotten a little trigger happy with the wall of honor stuff. At this point, every graduating senior or drafted player gets put up there.

Okay... Not sure if there's a criterion. But #13 for Smitty (our leading scorer and arguably most important recruit ever) and Bazz (AA, two nattys), #42 for Donyell (first AA) and Khalid (engine of the first natty). It's problematic because, aside from Dan Cyrulik, we haven't had another dominant #50 that I can remember. So if you retire 13, you have to do it for both Smitty and Bazz, and that could be a little awkward.

Roger Cleaveland spoke to Calhoun about Emeka for the article.

ā€œHe’s smart, articulate and insightful,ā€ Calhoun said. ā€œThere is no such thing as a perfect kid, but Mek is close. He’s a special, special person. That is who he is. A special player. That is who he is. You are lucky if you get one of those guys in a lifetime, and he is that kind of person.
Meka gets it. He doesn’t get himself. He gets the situation. He was a great player who had a great college career and was rookie of the year in the League. He accomplished a lot, but more than that he was a special player, person and teammate, and UConn was lucky to get him.ā€

'Special, special person': Jim Calhoun reacts to UConn's plan to retire Emeka Okafor's No. 50

.-.
Do y'all think Emeka Okafor's UConn could have beaten Carmelo and Syracuse back in 03?

Of all the dumb questions, jeez

Of course you know they did, twice. Cuse never took the lead in either game.
