The State Open track meet was held yesterday. Bloomfield senior Demario Gray won three events...
the long jump, triple jump and high jump. The morning article says he is headed to UConn next year....great pick-up for a solid program. He did 6'10" in the high jump....earlier this year he made 7' even...I think that was 5th best in the country at the time. I hope Demario gets invited to one of the all-star track meets held in June....test himself against the very best.

Hmm...Demario coming on board next year. The following year we have Gabby Williams coming to Storrs....4th or 5th best in the Olympic trials in 2012 in the high jump....6' 2" or so. Maybe a little friendly competition between these two....spot Gabby 10 inches or so....and go at it.

Bloomfield won the meet...boy-side and girl-side.

Note: Hillhouse senior phenom Precious Holmes was not listed at all in the results. Injury?
She is a national level track athlete....wonder where she is headed?

Appreciate that, Meyers! Turns out she is indeed nursing an achilles injury. BTW: Windsor High senior Sydnee Over is headed to Florida State....several bigtime track athletes in Ct. in the class of 2013. It states that Precious opted for South Carolina over Texas A&M....A7M is a a top level program in the extreme. Hey....down the road hopefully one of these kids will be in the Olympics...Rio in 2016 or wherever in 2020.

I guess it's Istanbul, Tokyo or Madrid. All seem pretty good destinations. Hope I'm still around for them. ;)
Dunno where Spain would gt the money. Japan is surely playing up post Fukushima recovery, but I'd be surprised if Istanbul doesn't win.

I think it's terrific that some elite type track stars are considering and coming to UCONN. I think we have a disadvantage in that snow and freezing winters make it difficult to do outdoor track year round unlike the southern states, but then again, we don't have lots of 100+ degree days in CT with high humidity like they do in the south...

Yea, I'm thinking if they don't screw up their presentations and can cover everything, Istanbul should probably get it.

Former UConn WBB star Peggy Walsh Myer's son (and incoming UConn Football recruit) currently has the 4th longest high school javelin toss in the United States and recently won the javelin toss @ the CIAC State of CT Open:

>> UConn incoming freshman Tommy Myers won the javelin at the CIAC State Open Track and Field Championships earlier today. Myers, a Coventry High senior, had a winning throw of 193 feet and 11 inches which was nearly 10 feet better than anybody else in the field. Myers finished seventh in the shot put with a toss of 50-11 3/4.<<

The real problem though is javelin catch is a one and done sport.

Wow, great get for UC track! Good luck Demario!

BTW: the New England Championships are being held at Willow Brook in New Britain at 10:00
this coming Saturday....top 6 in each event in each state qualify.

The weekend after this coming one New Balance is holding the national championships in North Carolina.
Hope the Ct. studs get invited to that one....I would guess if one is nursing an injury he/she might skip the New Englands for
the national event.

Would somebody please hand him a basketball and remind him there is no money in track other than serial boxes and sneakers?

How many boxes in that series? Is there any particular order you must keep them in. ;)
