You don't believe there is any validity to coaches not fully opening the playbook first game of the year?
Edsall-maybe. We've said it the last three years and they were definitely playing with a full deck in the one possession wins vs FCS teams.

it 100% happens everywhere from high school to the NFL. to think otherwise is naive. I don't think we got out of the base 3-3-5 look until it was 20-7.

Little guys with big speed should be going out for screens or dump offs over the middle every 3rd down.

The answer is as simple as this, IMHO:

UCONN's opening drive 3rd and 1 - If Pindell properly reads the diving LB he never gives Newsome the ball and easily picks up the first down. By handing the ball off he doomed Newsome t0 5 blockers vs 7 defenders and the results were obvious.

I gotta agree with spack, bl, and kris on this. The HC game plan was to take away Newsome and make Pindell beat them. Newsome and Pindell will be fine. I believe it all comes down to reps, coaching, and recognition ... hopefully they'll get there soon!!
