Good for the AAC. Kind of bummed for us, though, because I'm pretty sure this means URI's gonna go with Cox.

Que sera.

Yep. Apparently their search drew out because he had demands he wanted them to meet (staff, investment, etc). Looks like ECU met his resource requirements.

Yup. Good for the AAC. Likely bad for our chances at poaching the URI class.

Interesting to see him go back to a place from which he was fired. I agree that this is good for the AAC.

What? But everybody on the URI board told me the AAC was a garbage league, worse than the A10! And certainly ECU couldn't compete with the future Gonzaga of the East in Kingston. They were willing to put up 2 whole million dollars for a practice facility!

I don't think our needs would be met by poaching the URI class anyways. We need a PG and a CG/shooter

For those who are unaware, Dooley was an assistant at ECU from 1991 - 1995, then head coach from 1996 - 1999. He went 57-52 in 4 seasons, got fired, then made stops at New Mexico, Wyoming and Kansas before becoming head coach at FGCU. And now, 20 years after being fired from East Carolina, he's back.

Has any coach ever been fired by a school only to be hired by them again 20 years later?

Don’t want the class. Want a recruiter who relates to players like the above tweets demonstrate.

If he stays at URI as head coach he’ll be a whoos and I’ll claim I never wanted him!

Norm Sloan coached Florida Gators in the early 60's, then went to his alma mater NC State, which included a Final Four, then coached at Florida again in the 80's with Vernon Maxwell.
