East Hartford's Kevon Jones Catches UConn Coaches' Attention At Middle Linebacker

>>In the days afterward, both coach Randy Edsall and defensive coordinator Billy Crocker pointed to Jones’ performance as a positive.“He was fairly physical,” Crocker said. “We saw him shock a couple offensive linemen who were good players and knock them backwards and get off a couple blocks.”<<

>>Proximity to family and friends was part of the reason Jones committed to UConn early in his recruiting process, becoming the first member of the Huskies’ 2018 class. In fact, he had developed a connection with the program back in middle school, when he participated in a UConn-run mentoring initiative. Though he drew recruiting interest from Boston College and Syracuse, he never considered going anywhere but Storrs.<<

>>Asked about Jones on Tuesday, Edsall praised the linebacker’s physicality even while addressing the areas in which he must improve. “He wasn’t always as sound as you would’ve liked him to be, but the one thing he does and has the ability to do is take a blocker on and make a play, which we didn’t have a lot of before,” Edsall said. “Was he always where he was supposed to be? No. But at least he’s got some physical tools that he can do some things that other people can’t do. He’s got to now start studying the game and studying the opponent to make himself play faster.”<<
