Now that we're about a third of the way through the regular season and I have too much time on my hands, here's my quick list of award winners through the first chunk of the season.

All Americans:
1st Team:
Breanna Stewart, Sr, Connecticut
Nina Davis, Jr, Baylor
A'ja Wilson, So, South Carolina
Makayla Epps, Jr, Kentucky
Kelsey Mitchell, So, Ohio State

2nd Team:
Moriah Jefferson, Sr, Connecticut
Morgan Tuck, Jr, Connecticut
Azure Stevens, So, Duke
Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, Jr, Maryland
Kristine Anigwe, Fr, Cal

3rd Team:
Victoria Vivians, So, Mississippi State
Madison Cable, Sr, Notre Dame
Imani Boyette, Sr, Texas
Jessica Shepard, Fr, Nebraska
Jillian Alleyne, Sr, Oregon

All Freshman Team:
Kristine Anigwe, Fr, Cal
Jessica Shepard, Fr, Nebraska
Marina Mabrey, Fr, Notre Dame
Destinee Walker, Fr, North Carolina
Arike Ogunbowale, Fr, Notre Dame

Player of the Year: Breanna Stewart, Connecticut
Freshman of the Year: Kristine Anigwe, Cal
Coach of the Year (lots of options): Muffett McGraw, Notre Dame. I don't think anyone expected Notre Dame to be this good considering the injuries/absences of Turner and Reimer.

Right now a lot of players have inflated numbers since conference play is just getting underway, and other players are taking time to find their rhythm, but we'll see how it shakes out.

I like it. I think Missouri's Sophie Cunningham should be on watch for the All Freshmen Team. She is lighting it up so far, if she continues like this into conference play, watch out.

Brittney Martin for Oklahoma State deserves to be on any midseason list. Ask Baylor about her

How 'bout them Panthers? My son is going to college in North Carolina and has become a Panthers fan. His brother goes to college in Massachusetts and is a Patriots fan, which makes for some interesting discussions during the games.

Panther mania is at an all time high.... we welcome others to the bandwagon  The Panthers have an potentially brutal road through the NFC just to make the Super Bowl.... but a Panther-Patriot Super Bowl would be very interesting

Martin has impressed me since her arrival at OSU. Great shooter with length on the wing. She certainly continued to impress me a few nights ago when Baylor had no answer for her. Some of the shots she hit were well defended yet she was still able to get her shot of. She is easily top 15.

A lot of well deserving players but there is no way that there are 15 players more deserving than Niya Johnson.

While I've appreciated your basketball insights over the years, unlike many other WCBB fans, A'ja Wilson hasn't impressed me. (and BTW, I'm not a Gamecock hater...got my BA from there in '83.) But, like her coach, she gets a whole lotta press. Yes, she's pretty good "around the basket", and she's a got a bit more spring in her step than many her size. But, first team...not yet. She's got to show this fan, much more. Rebounding or shooting over the opposition, who you often tower over, doesn't impress me.
Two you've left off that have been very impressive this year are Michigan State's Aerial Powers, and Louisville's Briahanna Jackson, whose year on the sidelines has only made her smarter, and more aggressive. Jessica Shepherd? While she's certainly got potential, FSU's Bulgak has been more impressive.
As you said, its early, so let's see how the season plays out.

Geez, I forgot Courtney Williams, too. It's tough to pick only 15 players.

Wow!Lots of love for Norte Dame.Cable an All- American?Collier would be on my All-Freshman Team.Did anyone expect Kentucky to be this good ?Outside of Epps, they are a bunch of no names. The most we heard about Kentucky was an abundant of transfers.Considering those factors I think Coach Mitchell has done the best with the least at this stage of the season.Coach of the Year-Mitchell.

The toughest call while making this list was picking just 15 since there are a lot of really good players with big stat lines this year. A lot of players are also starting a bit slower than expected: Deshields, T. Mitchell, Alexis Jones, etc and I think all could be All Americans by the end of the year but wouldn't make my list just yet.

Cable has been outstanding this year and Notre Dame's only loss was by 10 on the road at Connecticut playing without Turner. They've knocked off multiple top ten teams with a roster of freshmen and role players from last year's squad, so that's why I picked Muffett. And UCONN isn't getting 3/5 of the first team nods. Jefferson is the best point guard in the country but other players have impressed more in the early going. I think she'll be a 1st team all American when it's all said and done after conference play takes its toll. Tuck has been great but again, UCONN isn't going to get 3/5 spots especially in a year where they've had a few teams play them close and there are many other players having exceptional seasons.

Williams from South Florida is absolutely one of the top 15, probably top 10, players this year. And TAMU has Williams and Walker, who are both exceptional players.
