Shown below are the list of 14 Centers from a culled down list of players. I listed the Games, Minutes per game, pts, reb, assists, turnovers, blocks, steals and assist to turnover ratio. I then ranked them 1 to 14 for each category and summed up the 8 columns to show how they ranked against each other.

While Collier is getting much attention as she leads in points per game, minute played per game and rebounds per game, she is also last in assists, last in turnovers (meaning she has the most) and last in assist to turnover ratio. She also ranked 9th in blocks.

First listed will be the raw stats per game by Name and in a second post will be the relative ranking by total rank.

Here's the scoring rank:
As you can see, Olivia is second behind Boston and just ahead of Sabally and Austin.

I'd take Elizabeth Kitley of VPI over most of the players you listed. SInce its 2020 and I believe in naming names.... Boston, Cunnane, and maybe Collier are the players who I'd probably take over her off the top of my head.

Just a question, are freshman not eligible. Cardoso from Syracuse is doing well in limited minutes, and compares fairly well.

Those aren’t all centers. Maybe you should change it to posts?

Austin left Maryland because she didn’t like playing the center position. I’d be surprised if she’s playing the position for Ole Miss.

Belibi is 6’1. Not sure she’s playing the position.

Sabally might be playing the position until Prince is up to speed, but I wouldn’t characterize her as a center.

Egbo center, Smith PF.

How about Natasha Mack out of OSU? Does she not meet statistical standards? I believe she’s leading the nation in blocks.

N. Smith has been pretty disappointing this year to me. Egbo while good has issues with staying out of foul trouble.

I love Austin although Ole Miss hasn’t really played anyone.

as stated above, some are true centers while others are PFs

Agree that this is a crappy list. Might have been better to cull it down a bit. Many don't belong or have enough minutes to allow their stats to mean much anyway.

Belibi is 6’1. Not sure she’s playing the position.

She's as close as they have to a center in their starting lineup. It's certainly not Haley Jones, who is kind of a jack of all trades and is as much guard as post.

One reason Tara has switched to running the Princeton is that she doesn't need a true center. And she doesn't have one.

If we're going to do this, why not just use the Lisa Leslie Center Award watch list? You'll note no one from Stanford graces that list, quite rightly, in my view. And notably, both Belibi and Brink were on the Katrina McClain Power Forward Award watch list, which is precisely where they'd belong.

Seriously “Crappy”? Just no pleasing everyone...
Head bang

Well Merry Christmas to you too WillTalk. :)Looking forward to you trying to create a “positive thread analysis” forPeople to discuss!

So I will take some of the feedback and add to the list as I said “early analysis and YES Austin and Belibi have been playing the post.

Lists like this can be good for discussion starters. Not picking on you @DefenseBB , what about Dorka Juhasz from Ohio St.? She might not really be a center either, nobody on OSU's roster is listed as a center, but she's 6-4 and putting up numbers that compare favorably to most here--17.8 ppg 10.5 rbg 52.6% FG shooting (although don't look at her 3 point or FT shooting percentages).

I know that this is not intended to be an all-inclusive list, but you have listed the centers/posts of all of the top teams with one glaring omission - Olivia Cochran of Louisville. She is averaging 13.8 points and 9.0 rebounds in 19.0 minutes per game, shooting 59.0% from the field. She does have 8 turnovers to only 6 assists and only 2 blocked shots.

Based on my early observations (five games and who knows when or if the next one will be played) her play (and that of Liz Dixon who is getting 15 minutes per game) will determine how far this team goes in the postseason (if there is one). The guard and wing play has been solid, as expected.

A few more maybes...Monika Czinano from Iowa, Jenn Wirth from Gonzaga, Cate Reese from Arizona, Taylor Jones from Oregon St.

I noticed some teams don't list anybody as a center, it's either forward or guard. It's kinda difficult to determine who actually is a center or not, but when you use the term post it becomes more inclusive I think.

So, while reviewing the feedback, most of it pretty good, let me clarify my initial thinking:
I wanted to take a look at those players who play the main post position for their team, like Belibi and Austin. I also ran the stats of the names that seem to stand out among discussions for POY in the conference or for the All-American teams to identify the truly elite players be that a list of 5 or 10. I initially started with 20ish and displayed 14. As an example, I appreciate the names that @nwhoopfan just listed but I specifically excluded Czinano, Reese and Jones from real consideration as while they are good, I do not think they are elite, at least not at this point in the season. I will add Wirth to the list and check her numbers vs. the others. Cocheran is also interesting so she should be added. I will also take a look at Cardoso and Juhasz but again, keep in mind, I am trying to identify elite players and in my initial review, I am not thinking either is worthy yet.

With that "elite" aspect in mind, kindly (and I mean kindly!) tell me who should be added that was omitted or who should be culled from the list of 14.

Thanks,
DefenseBB

With that "elite" aspect in mind, kindly (and I mean kindly!) tell me who should be added that was omitted or who should be culled from the list of 14.

With that in mind, Prince needs to be culled from the list. Her stats are significantly less than all the add ons I tried to get added. She may have all the potential in the world but isn't having remotely close to the impact that an elite player should at this point.

Since when was averaging 20.5 points, 5 rebounds a game, at a 68% shooting clip versus a Top 50 SOS not worthy of being considered elite? I know that you're taking another look at it, but I'm asking for a friend (and Monika Czinano).

I think it's hard to compare some of these stats right now, for example, Iowa has played a pretty darn good schedule, meanwhile Austin is on a team that has played a sub-300 SOS. Bailey, Nelson-Ododa, Carter, and Collier are all on teams with Sub-100 SOS per Massey. I would give more emphasis on what Czinano has accomplished so far this season over someone like Austin, Bailey, or Nelson-Ododa. Just my two cents. Granted, there's still lots of basketball to be played and that players like Austin, Nelson-Ododa, and Bailey will get to prove they belong to this conversation.
