The thread on him when UConn offered is locked so starting a new one. I think he's a very high priority for Hurley and the staff.

I haven’t taken any visits yet,” Mingo said. “I’ll probably visit Washington, Virginia, Baylor, UConn, Miami, NC State, UNC, Oklahoma, and Alabama.”

UCONN: “Just them being a winning program. As much as they win, I mean, they had a rough year this year. But they’re saying they’re going to be back to national championship level this year. So, just seeing how that goes is pretty crazy.”

I have to laugh that they call him a 4 star recruit even though they have him rated #4 overall in the 2026 class. Only because they give just the top 3 guys (Stokes, McCoy and Collins - https://www.on3.com/rivals/rankings/player/basketball/2026/) 5 stars. I'm sure that will change in the next update.

Trilly says he’s been told Mingo will take 7-8 visits. Will be interesting to see if this recruitment drags on for awhile.

Along with Washington, some schools I am hearing involved with Long Island (NY) Lutheran point guard are Baylor, Oklahoma, UConn, Penn State (where his brother Kayden Mingo is a freshman), Virginia, Alabama, and UNC. Things are pretty open at this point, and it will be worth watching the trend of his visits. Speaking with sources around the recruitment, it sounds like the goal is to commit late in the process, but during the early signing period.
Prediction: Baylor or UConn
Confidence Level: 20%

Pretty wide distribution of possible landing spots in this class - not the hoarding that we’ve seen in the past. Could be the class or simply that the schools will be leaning in on the portal.

Height/Weight: 6-5/180
School: Long Island (NY) Lutheran
Rivals 150: No. 3
When looking at Dylan Mingo, he immediately passes the eye test. The 6-foot-5 guard has long arms and a projectable frame. With that, in watching his game, he has a slippery handle with the ability to get to spots and put pressure on the defense. While he is going to need to continue working through his shooting, he averaged 7.8 free-throw attempts in EYBL play this summer. He is also a very competitive defender, collecting deflections and adding 1.5 steals per game. He also will not turn 18 until October of his freshman year of college.

Mingo has not publicized any official visits yet. He took his first, to Washington on August 3. watching for schools like Alabama, UConn, Baylor, Penn State, etc., to be in the mix here.

Despite the headline of the article, I think this is just some random person trying to make a prediction.

What School will Land Mingo?​

In the end, Mingo could commit to several different schools, but it’s always safe to bet on Hurley and Connecticut. Mingo could see the success of another weak-shooting wing player, Stephon Castle, and hope to mirror him. From a basketball standpoint, Hurley’s motion offense and history of elevating talent makes UConn a slightly more attractive option than Washington or UNC.

Good question. Who knows? They've only offered two 5s that we know about. Arafan Diane, who doesn't seem likely to choose UConn out of his final 12 schools, and Sayon Keita, who already visited UConn and some other blue bloods but hasn't committed yet,

Maybe the staff is thinking those are the only 2 in the 2026 recruiting class who they can see making a big impact in 2026-2027. If you think about it, we'll be losing an experienced big in Reed and have a sophomore Reibe at the 5. Plus maybe a developmental big Hurley has mentioned still coming for this coming season. So certainly sounds like they could use an experienced 5 from the portal for 2026-2027 and pass on recruiting a 2026 5 if they can't land Diane or Keita.

Anyone else who follows recruiting want to chime in here?
 
The above is pretty accurate as far as I am aware. The anticipated approach is that we would still be looking for a big if we were to sign Mingo and Cloer (or alternatively, County* and Cloer). However, there is still a possibility of reclassing a 2026 big as a 2025 big for our current roster this season as a "developmental guy" - which would change our staff's stance on signing a 2026 big. Low chance of that at this stage, but still on the table. They are scouring European leagues right now for the developmental big, but I don't have details on their progress. Diane and Keita both look like leans away from UConn right now; however, if either of those ended up here, there is a very good chance they start from day 1 over Reibe (both may end up as OAD's)

Bigger picture on recruiting for 2026: 3 appears to be the magic number for guys Hurley believes he can get on the roster and in a contributing role next year from the 2026 high school class (just by anticipating the graduations of our starting PF & C, and backup PG). While at least one of the Mullins, Solo, Stewart & Silas will likely be in the league in a year, Hurley is not currently counting on that. It seems the staff believes that Karaban's return contributed to Adams decommitment in a roundabout way and is weary of creating a scenario like that again. They don't want to kick guys out after being major contributors (cough cough* Pitino)

How was Karaban in any way related to Adams? As to centers, I am expecting international or next year's portal. I think Favour Ibe is a third center that could help us from the 2026 class but it seems we must not be involved.

Assuming this is not rhetorical: Karaban off the roster would open up a wing spot in the rotation. While I believe Adams technically left before it was official AK was back (may need to double check dates), the presumption internally was that the spot on the wing was not "open" per se. The gist is that Hurley doesn't want to push players out, and over-recruiting can make players feel that way

Chain reaction of Stewart getting less time at the 4, pushing him down to the 3 possibly as starter which pushes Braylon to the bench/less minutes at the 3, which pushes him to take more backup 2 minutes, which leaves less or none available for Adams.

I assume the bigger issue was Malachi Smith, but the Karaban thing may have been the last straw.

The math checks out (and makes a ton of sense). But that count only works with a center as one of the recruits and likely with a PG as one of those recruits.
