2026 Recruiting: Dylan Mingo offer

We've already got a nice LuHi connection between Jayden Ross and Kentan Facey.

A score-first 6'5 180 point guard who won't even turn 17 until this summer. Love his ability to carve up the D and find his spots in the halfcourt, plus I think his length and bounce give him a ton of defensive potential too.
 
Watched a bunch of highlights... initial thoughts

  • NBA size for his position. 6'5guard with long arms. Looks bigger than his listed 180lbs. I'd guess 6'6 190-195lbs
  • Looks more like a combo guard to me ... not the passer you'd expect from a true PG. Think... more Cam/Castle than Tristen.
  • He has cleaned up his shooting a lot. His lift path was a big loop and made it slow. He's a lot better now but the ball is still a bit too far from his body IMO. That shot form and the change the off-seasn probably explains the lower 3pt%.
  • Plays top-tier HS competition at LuHi.
  • Seems to have a good sense for back cutting
  • Tough under the rim. Gets a bunch of offensive rebounds
  • Left hand finishing/passing/dribbling has improved since his HS season. Showed almost nothing there, but flashes now. He's clearly worked hard on it. At this rate he'll be an ambidextrous finisher in a year.
  • Seeing a lot of unselfish extra passes.
  • Likes to "close the gate" after getting by a defender. Definitely very Cam-ish there. He was a master of that.
  • Not a super high-flying athlete. Looks to me like he relies on craftiness and skill more.
  • Really like his bag once he gets by the first defender. Has a number of pivots, duck throughs, reverses, etc. that he uses to ge tshots and passes off
  • Very aggressive in passing lanes

I had the same thought. He seems like a perfect Hurley recruit because:
1). He's a tall point guard.
2). He can score at all 3 levels and get to the basket.
3). He plays hard on defense.
4). He can play in the backcourt with another point guard.
4). He's local and plays at the same high school as Jayden Ross played at so the staff must know their coach.

I wanted him since I read about him last fall and then seeing him play when LuHi played La Lumiere at the Hoophall Classic. He's pretty highly ranked already but seems to be taking it to another level this spring. Very happy to see they offered.

On3 MVP: 4-Star PG Dylan Mingo​

Dylan Mingo moved into the top five, No. 4 overall, for On3 in their most recent ranking update. The 6-foot-5 point guard showcased his ability to consistently finding a way to get into the teeth of the defense and make a play.

Mingo has excellent feel for angles. Off the bounce, he was able to consistently find his way to advantages. Mingo absorbs contact, finishes at the rim, and is an excellent defender, playing at both the point of attack and in the passing lanes collecting deflections.

Mingo finished with 29 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals going 12-16 from the field.

On3 MVP: 4-Star PG Dylan Mingo​

Dylan Mingo has been clutch this week, winning his matchups which has also helped to winning his games. His first game of day two of the NBPA Top 100 Camp, Mingo brought his team back from down eight in the fourth quarter to finish with 30 points, 8 rebounds, and 11 assists.

Mingo is a slippery guard. He did a good job toggling between set-up man and play finisher in this one. He lived with two feet in the paint, and put an immense amount of pressure on the defense. He attempted 11 free throws in the win. His understanding of pace makes up for his lack of top-end burst, and he is going to have to continue working on his three-point shot. But his ability to elevate his teams to wins this week has been very impressive.

While his second game was not quite as exciting as his first, he finished with 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists and his team moved to 4-0 on the week. He is currently second in scoring (23.8) and leading in assists (6.8).

Could he be a Kadary Richmond clone as a ball handler and passer but with a better shot? Pretty crafty dribbling through traffic, scoring or finding open men with great passes.

Now that you have watched Mingo in this clip, rewatch it looking at the other players. Several are guys we talk about. I mentioned in the Diane thread that there were numerous interesting big men. Several are in these clips. #81 on Mingo's Thomas team that puts back a miss with a dunk is Favour Ibe, 7'1 from MD. Watch him setting picks, rolling to the basket that could be lobs, following Mingo's shots, and running the floor in transition. Looks pretty useful to me. Several of Mingo's assist highlights are to #126 Quinn Costello for made 3's who seems as interesting at 6'8 as Cloer and the kid from TN. Costello is from Boston. I hadn't seen him before. #136 in black is Sam Funches son, 6'11 from MS on the Taylor team. #2 on that team is Deron Rippey, #52 is Cole Cloer, and #77 is Tristan Reed. Reed seems to have a powerful build but I haven't seen much of his play. #137 on the Winslow team is 7' Sayon Keita from Spain. On the Singleton team #14 playing Mingo is Taylen Kinney, #8 is Anthony Thompson, and their big is a more slight but agile Juom Maker Bol Meen 6'11 2027 from Spain. Separately, I have to say Junior County didn't show much of anything when I was watching him.
 
In a post in another thread I commented about an interview with Mingo that I watched and he impressed me. I thought I would add the info again to this thread about Mingo. As to how he wanted to improve he said he wanted to be known as a defensive stopper. As to what he would do with his NIL, he said "save 80%". I really like Rippey, but between that interview and watching Mingo, he's a guy we need to go after. Seems like a shot making Castle.

Man, hard not to love Ibe from that reel. Good screens, perfect fundamentals diving to the hoop after, seems to have good hands, always looking to crash. Really good frame, too.

Costello's release was high and quick, and it looks like he's blowing up. I love keeping local kids here, so hopefully we go after him.

What are his numbers on the circuit?

This the kid that plays for the Magic? I've heard his offers have really gone to another level this spring.

Seems like he's in the 3* range now but might end up more in the 50-75 range?

He already has a bunch of big time offers- Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Texas, Wisconsin, Syracuse, Providence, Notre Dame...
