As long as we are on the subject of WBB, don't look now but the decline already started last year and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Geno is regularly losing recruiting battles now and this year's team will make it no further than the third or fourth round.

I was never a fan of Edsall naming Dunn his successor so that's the one good thing to come out of this mess.

They have lost 5 games in the last 6 seasons, 2 were overtime on last second shots. You might want to try using that thing between your ears called a brain before you post.

The only positive press the UConn athletic department has gotten in the past 4-5 years.

IIRC, the UConn Women's Basketball Team set a record for winning 111 consecutive games, and the world couldn't even change the channel because the TV set wasn't on. WBB is too much of a niche sport to ever bring a significant amount of meaningful good press. There is a reason WCBB is relegated to ESPN2 on Sunday afternoons when the sports world is watching the NFL on CBS and Fox.

The opportunity cost of paying a WCBB coach $2 million is huge. There is no meaningful payback in terms of money or reputation that justifies such a cost. UConn could hire a serviceable WCBB coach at one-tenth the price and still receive the same amount of benefit. But you see what happens in football when you don't pay your coaches.

It's a very dubious "loss" because we don't know how scholarships are valued and you should subtract out the costs of the XL center which is really state funding for downtown Hartford. UCONN is actually incentivized to report a loss because it generates the biggest check from the state. Are donations counted against the loss and what is the advertisement value of the Women's basketball program? A team that had their own HBO show.

Can all of you please stop with the idiotic idea that Geno's salary is hurting football, it's beyond stupid. Coaches are paid based on their personal market value. Diaco and PP made good money (more than Geno) and they were incompetent. More money doesn't always mean better results.

I think the $2M+ that Geno makes would be better served in football.

What you're failing to comprehend is that if football doesn't improve, the whole damn AD is going to collapse.

What you are failing to comprehend is that WBB sells tickets has a TV contract and is self funded. Remove Geno and ticket sales go away, TV contract goes away and donations drop.

WBB Tier 3 rights with SNY earns UConn just over $1 Mil.

All Football and MBB rights (and top tier WBB rights) with ESPN earns UConn just under $2 Mil.

Craziness. We are getting punked by the AAC & ESPN.

Another article said only 2% of FB and MBB made money. It also said only UConn WBB made a profit.
Well, that article has a serious credibility issue now, doesn't it. They lost $3 mil.

I don't think you know what self funded means.

It's clear you don't know a damn thing about business or accounting. Numbers can be manipulated to produce a desired result, like a large check from the state.

UConn signed the #1 player in the country each of the previous three classes.

Theres a hundred logical cuts you can make to save money in the AD and you morons wanna cut the reason UConn has turned a money pit at every school into a moneymaker (ignore the Courant report, they make money or break even at worst, pay attention).

Plus, imagine the headlines and look of such a move. You guys thought the national mockery of Edsall's bonuses for consecutive first downs in odd-numbered quarters was bad? You haven't seen the half of it if you cut WBB money for this s**tshow of a football program.

Everyone knows the P&L's can be manipulated to nearly whatever you want them to be. Comparing one to another isn't going to be apples to apples. However we are looking at what UConn is reporting itself about it's own programs. If anything the numbers are likely to be a lot worse across the board than what they are saying.

Of course the whole AD is a money pit and bloated with idiots who have run it into the ground. Geno, the hockey programs, track and field are all losing millions and would be the first places I'd look towards leaning out.

I'm past the point of caring what the national media wants to run with as the story of the day. They didn't say a peep when the 11 time national champions were left to rot on the vine in this Mickey mouse league did they?

Again what you are all failing to accept is that it's not about what Geno deserves, it's not about losing money on athletics (nearly everyone does), it's managing how much we are losing.

Football is the only program that can get us out of here. What don't you understand?

Tough to recognize a sea change isn't it. #1 player in the country the last three years? Yet somehow they are only 5th and managed to beat Cincinnati by only 10. (Cincinnati!!)

Does anyone know how much Taliek Brown and Shea Ralph get paid to hold clipboards?
Shea Ralph is good young coach who could be a HC right now if she wanted to. She's very likely to the next HC at UConn, if Chris Daley doesn't want it.

Taliek is Director of Player Development. His job is largely logistical and working with players, tutors etc. He also is a critical link to past Huskies players.

Why crap on them?

as loathe as I am to agree with Mets - the wbb program probably runs above breakeven all in.

the numbers uconn publishes by sport dont reflect the actual results.

it probably isnt possible because all you can do is guess at how to allocate things like the IMG deal across sports.
