DWHOOPS - Link

Posted Link before reading preview. Rob is usually unbiased in his previews even though a big Duke fan and moderator of a Duke fan site.

RobC is # ONE Duke is fortunate to have a talent representing them like he does. I may not be correct but I don't think he is a moderator.

RobC is # ONE Duke is fortunate to have a talent representing them like he does. I may not be correct but I don't think he is a moderator.

Rob is DWHoops' Senior Editor, he does 95% of the writing for the site, which I publish.

While we do primarily cover Duke and make no excuses about drawing our paying supporters from that fan base, we try to write to that audience in an unbiased fashion. One result of that is DWHoops drawing occasional readers from many other teams, including some who learned about us through our 2012 ACC Preview eBook (published via amazon.com).

Both Rob and I look forward to the annual Duke/UConn game despite the recent one-sidedness of the series. Though after braving last year's weather in Storrs I am glad that this year's game is here - Monday forecast: 55 and sunny - and that's about 10 degrees cooler than yesterday! :)

It is nicely done.

And this is an observation, not a complaint: This guy seems well-informed, yet he does not seem to be fully aware of Kelly Faris' importance to the team. I think this, sadly, is a reflection of the lack of appreciation give to her in the media, generally ... and particularly from those that should be most aware of her contributions. I wouldn't expect a Duke guy to carry the water that others shirk. It's a damn shame that scoring trumps all other considerations among the pundits.

Nice job by Rob. I noticed he talked about UConn loss of Moore and Dixon but didn't mention the loss of Thomas, Thomas and Christmas. Statistically speaking, it was a much bigger loss for Duke and UConn has added more than Duke.

Disagree. Duke is playing much better now that Williams has arrived and the sophomores have taken over. Duke lost talented players, but the sophomore class is more talented and now does not defer to those players.

It is a preview for one game, not a treatise on the season. And Faris will not beat Duke by herself, like other players can. It is a game preview, not the UConn media guide.

???
And I had NO criticism of the preview.

You seem to be looking for something that ain't there. OR, maybe you agree that scoring should trump all other factors? You apparently under-rate Kelly's importance, like most of the ill-informed.

Paco, this isn't a season in review or a treatise. It is a game preview.

I used your words, then you claim I looked for something that was not there. See my previous comments. It is not a UConn player-by-player analysis.

He knew. But that does not change what occurred in those games or the performances given. Is there always an injury caveat? Is there an asterisk by the 2000 title for Ace Clement's injury? There is not. Only the Stanford fans seem to think there should be (see commentary on the 1998 NCAA Tournament). :)

Again, it is a game preview. Paco seems to think it as a megilla with unlimited room for analysis and should be so for UConn players (on a Duke site). It is a preview for the particular game.

Well, there's the problem. My words were, as the opening comment, "It is nicely done" followed by "And this is an observation, not a complaint."

Where does "season in review" or "treatise" come into it? I get that it is a game preview, and I thought it was well done. It was, additionally, a nice jumping off point for my peripheral, though brilliant, observations. Good golly.

Except you criticized the media and lumped the article in with it. You also criticized his alleged lack of awareness, which demonstrates you do not seem to understand the differences between a game preview and a season treatise, much less from a non-UConn site.

In your most recent post, you discuss your allegedly brilliant observations, but overlook what you said about the author and the media.

Cam, you follow UConn enough that it is clear that even in a game review Faris is critical to the Huskies. She simply is the glue that probably more than almost any other team holds it all together. Missing Faris's defensive contributions alone can be to miss a critical component in game preparation that guarantees a losing outcome.

Easy there, my friend. Paco made it clear that he was annoyed with the media and did not lump the article in with it - I wouldn't expect a Duke guy to carry the water that others shirk. No insult was intended to your friend Rob.

What did you not understand about statistically speaking? As I said in another post, we will see if the sum of this year parts is better than last years team.

Excellent report by Rob, as usual. It will be fun to watch to see if the game unfolds as predicted. I think we will have a much closer game that recently, no blowout tonight.

Good write-up. Complementary toward UConn in many ways--appropriately so.

The only thing I didn't like was labeling Kelly as a "utility" player. That understates her value. Unless Rob was calling her "electrifying." :)

The very well could be why I find her game absolutely stunning.:p
