Both teams scoring at will. Not much defense being played.

First team to 100 wins. It looks like a shooting drill.

Williams has developed some nice offensive moves. I think she will be the difference in this game.... Maryland has no answer for her inside.

Not much defense being played, but its an entertaining game nonetheless. Surrounded by turtle fans, but they have been ok, so far.

Kentucky had all it could handle at home with Florida. Won 57-52 but it was 1 pt with under a minute to play.

looks like Duke will win. Both very talented teams, but not much D. I imagine one of them will be sent to Fresno regional.

Good Win by Duke. IMHO they needed it more then Maryland did. Probably Maryland will win when Duke plays them on their home court later this year.

Duke will not put up 80 against Uconn, even on their home court.

.-.
yeah, but not both. One ACC team will come to Fresno.
Duke would be a very interesting matchup for Stanford. Williams vs. Nneka, Gray vs. Kokenis. Duke would have a problem handling Chiney.

Thought Maryland would pull this one out but missed down the stretch.

people kept saying no defense being played, but it looked VERY physical to me. i will be very curious to see how Duke fares against UCONN this year. i was actually impressed with both teams. the fighting for boards was fierce on both sides.

Thomas is a flat out superstar and Williams is a beast, altho she did seem to disappear for long stretches. i thought wells was great and Duke has a lot of strong guards/wing/forward types...

Not sure how it looked on TV.... but it was a great game to watch in person. VERY intense play from both sides... and a great and loud crowd. Maryland brought a large and vocal contingent. I bought a ticket online yesterday... and I was sitting right in the middle of a sea of red. Though I hate the Terps.... their crowd helped make it a tremendous atmosphere for wcbb.

Thomas has to be one of the 10 best players in WCBB.... EW played great... scoring wise in the first half... rebounding and battling in the second half. Gray played like the All-American guard she can be... and Peters had her best game in a Duke uniform today. 10-12 shooting... wow.

I thought they were both quality teams. Duke will be a tough contest for us. Warren and Grey are elite players.

Little confused by the names, isn't Wells out for Duke? I thought Richa Jackson played well for Duke.

yeah i messed that up. meant to mention Chelsey Gray, not Chloe Wells. My bad. and Haley Peters had a great game - she had several reverse layups that were really nice...

by the way, neither team missed a FT the entire game. impressive...

Duke started 4 sophomores and 1 freshman. MD started 3 sophomores, 1 junior, and 1 senior. Gonna be alot more great battles between us in the ACC for the next few years.

I guess you meant Williams and Gray? :p

Duke is more athletic and quicker in the post this year with the addition of Williams but I think is less so on the perimeter especially with Wells gone. Liston is a great shooter but needs time to set up and struggles against quicker and more athletic teams. Gray, Jackson and Peters are also not particularly quick and good transition teams can beat them down the court. Gray is very strong and tough to stop going to the basket, however, if she can turn the corner on her defender. I also don't think Duke's guards are strong with the ball and will turn it over when pressured defensively. Md's strength is its front line and it is not good at pressure defense.

.-.
My impression of Duke was that they had a lot of athletic talent, but there was heavy reliance on individual athleticism on offense. Against a more disciplined defense like UConn's I expect them to have some issues with that approach. I'm not expecting the kind of blowouts we saw last season, but I would be suprised and disappointed if UConn managed to lose, even in Durham.

Losing Wells may have good benefits less dribbling more passing and touches for every one. The TOs seem to decrease when every one is a play maker and stays fully alert.

Geno said it right last week after the UNC game that the ACC does not play defense and would learn very quickly what defense is if they played in the BE Conf.....

Besides Uconn and ND... and I assume Georgetown, Rutgers, and maybe WVU... who else plays good defense in the Big East ? Thanks.

They are the 5 best. I would say St. Johns is a good defensive team, maybe Louisville as well. Marquette is having a down year but they play tough defense.

Really, all the BE teams try to emphasize defense, but those with less talent are not the best for obvious reasons. When a team in the BE improves noticeably, it's almost always because they start defending better and showing more toughness.. This year, Providence is an example of that.
