Rippey committed today, Scheyer will be reloading with frosh. I find that fairly interesting in this class given it's been widely noted as not having a lot of difference makers behond Stokes.

With Boozer, Ngongba, Evans likely leaving, makes you wonder what Scheyer will do given he has no Boozer/Flagg coming in. And that is going to be a really crowded backcourt, so you'd have to think he pushes a couple of the current guys as well. His strategy will be tested this year.

Water is wet.....

Supposedly Jordan Smith was a Duke lean. Would they take him also? He's more of a combo guard but on the small side at 6-2, although built very well at 200 pounds.
This whole time I thought he was 6’5.

Finding out he’s 6’2 just makes the opinion of this being an incredibly weak class outside of Stokes stronger. Man this class is not good

Gonna be really interested to see how Scheyer builds his roster this year because of it.

Plays like he's 6'5" though. I really like Smith's game for college (NBA, we'll see).

.-.
What I don't like is that they'll be in the market for frontcourt help via the portal and could be competition for some guys that Hurley & crew might target.

Who’s the best transfer Duke has brought in? Sion James? Maliq Brown? Coward woulda been but went pro. Unless I’m forgetting someone scheyer hasn’t pulled anyone nearly as good as Newton Cam Reed or Demary from the portal. Hope he keeps focusing on high schoolers

The era of 5star freshman leading to titles is coming to an end. Recruiting and paying proven talent thru the Portal is where the next dominant teams will be...
Other than Carmelo and AD what other freshmen lead their teams to titles? Not sure thats really a thing as an "era".

I liked Sion James a lot. We coulda used him last year

Last 2 years - Flagg, Castle. I know Duke came up just short last year, But Flagg carried that team. UConn was loaded but they dont win the chip without Castle.
Castle was our 4th most impactful starter. All the top teams are pretty much going to have at least one impactful freshman.

Why is building a team through freshman a good idea?
It really isn’t nor is it encouraged. But Duke has such a regular influx of excessive talent that they could pull it off better than most. And I still think that’s a stretch

it will be fascinating to see which freshmen come back after this current year to avoid the extremely strong NBA draft class and focus on going against the extremely weak one next year.

Aside from Ngongba, who has Scheyer really had improve year over year?

Great recruiter but not sure he’s a great developmental coach. Or game coach.

A dude with Evan’s athleticism and shot should not be as bad as he is. Same with Proctor before that, he should have been Newtonesque there.

So Flagg didnt win the title and Castle did not lead that team. Saying we dont win without him is asinine as that is a major assumption with no way to prove or disprove it. Like i said the frosh carrying a team the title isnt common enough to be called an "era".

And UConn wins another title

Go figure
