Duke 30 for 30 ESPN

.-.
So when is the 30 for 30 about the school with 18 national championships in basketball going to happen?
I used to admire Duke's program when living in CT, long before going to school there too (when they were breaking hearts in the 1990s) ... I hoped we could mimic their success one day - we have exceeded it!

The 30 for 30 will not happen, until people get over their obsession with, and enablement of the Duke brand ... like how the hell does Duke still live rent free in peoples' heads, and haven't won a championship in 10+ years? ... as a Duke grad, I thank people for keeping Duke at the top of the fold - as a Husky, it's kinda creepy too, ha

Forget it, it should be a very long Netflix documentary. With Calhoun, Geno and Hurley talking you’re gonna have a lot of profanity in it.

I'm picturing a Reservoir Dogs flex-walk opening scene with KO trying desperately to keep up as Mr. Orange.

I'm less connected to college sports outside of UConn, but my feeling is that Duke and the other "classic" blue bloods are less obsessed than ever. NIL has "evened" the playing field where any school that wants to pony up can buy their team. BYU can go from a bunch of random soakers to having the #1 recruit in the country, and Indiana (amazing coach and deserved natty) can have billionaires funding their rise to dominance in football. UNC isn't UNC anymore, Kentucky is not the destination it once was, at least under Pope, and the SEC football schools can't just do creepy SEC stuff anymore because everyone else can, too.

Duke will still pull players, but it doesn't feel like a yearly coronation anymore, especially with them being without a championship since '15.

Duke has the espn hype machine.

Duke still has the mystique of coach k.

Duke still is still perceived as what is good right and pure in college ball.

They still land top 5 recruiting classes every year and have a top 10 pick in every draft.

That being said the hype has never matched the output

Coach k is gone and Jon scheyer ain't coach k

Duke was never what they were perceived to be, they were far from pure its just that the running rebels and fab 5 scared the hell outta America.

Included a very beautifully shot 4 minute highlight of Rod giving Laettner a few love taps with his forearm and elbow
Have not seen the show on Duke.. So apologize if this is self-evident. Did they show(or have any commentary)about the elbows Laettner was throwing prior to the Sellers love taps-- which precipitated Sellers response? Or is it just showing Sellers as being the "bad guy"?

It still baffles me that the NCAA with all of their stupid rules, regulations, examples of constant petty violations for things like a player borrowing a car for a day or a coach buying a $5 meal one time glossed over Zion’s parents basically being handed a mansion that there’s no way they could afford in Raleigh. It was such a blatant violation that just kinda went away. We would STILL be on probation if that were us.

They did? The fab 5 is probably the most popular college basketball team ever.
I don't know if that's valid, but can tell you that this week (at least) the 2024 (etc) champs are pretty popular.
Getting lots of positive comments from people around Phoenix this week when they see the logo embroidered on my shirts. The new dog. It's apparently very recognizable and people even enjoy the answer to my two quiz questions:
1. UConn men have six titles since 1999, how many does the entire B1G have since 1999?
2. UConn women have twelve titles since 1995, how many does the entire B1G have since 1995?
Nobody is even close and just shake their heads about how dominant the school has been but especially how overwhelming the 24 team was.

It showed all the elbows that Duke players took that year , portraying them as hated wounded warriors . Comical

I really liked that 1978 Duke team. Mike Gminski was their starting center. He should have been senior in high school that year but graduated early. They were actually lucky to be Rhody that year.

I'm not questioning that he graduated early, but I'm pretty sure he was a sophomore that year.

Yeah, that sounds right, we played against his high school team when I was a sophomore and that Duke team was when I was a senior. He did a bill Walton on us, something like 19 for 21 from the field. He had a foot on our center.
