The retreat in fuel prices (and lack thereof in electric rates) has had an enormous effect since then. I'm fine using window units for A/C. Bottom floor is open so one 10k unit keeps things comfortable, and then 3 small units in the bedrooms upstairs. But if 5 mini split units can be had for under $12k I'd have to seriously consider it.
