Yes, but from the article it also sounds as though she was giving a zinger just for fun, not as much at the expense of the Mystics as it might have been in another context. More about making people laugh than poking fun.

Although she was coached by Geno. . . Hmm. . .

Is it trash talking? Sure. But there is no one who respects the game and her opponents more than Diana Taurasi. And you couple that with a player who, like her college coach, understands the importance of a good soundbite, media attention for the game, etc., and voila...

My favorite Taurasi moment of the playoffs was during her halftime interview with Holly Rowe (during Game #2), when asked about Brittney Griner taking a shot in the eye and going down. Taurasi said, "She needs to get up!" Holly laughed. Then Taurasi added, "She got up, and we got up with her."

People who are inclined to think less of her will assume it was a swipe at the Mystics. People who look at the context of the comments will realize it's not even "Dee being Dee", but rather her stating the obvious - Washington had better odds that year to get the first pick and if they had won the lottery, Dee would have been a Mystic. Same for the year they drafted Griner. Not sure who had the best odds but it wasn't Phx, yet they got lucky and Griner came to them.

Just like if the Portland Trailblazers weren't brain damaged, they would have taken Jordan 2nd instead of Sam Bowie. Then Jordan could correctly have said "I could have been a Trailblazer instead of a Bull".

Actually, this part is not true. Phoenix had the best odds in 2004, by virtue of having the worst record in 2003. Washington's record was not as abysmal as Phoenix's record, though both were pretty bad.

ERICSANDIEGO~

Hindsight is always 20/20, Portland wasn't brain-dead. They took the best player available, who was the first player picked in the 1983 Draft? Was it Jordan? Was Houston brain-dead for taking Olajuwon, when they drafted Ralph Sampson #1 overall the year before? Sam Bowie was a great college player who's career unfortunately succumbed to injuries as a pro, much the same as Bill Walton's did . Portland had drafted Clyde Drexler the previous year and didn't believe they needed a SG. No one had any idea MJ would become the player that he became. DT3 if you listen to her entire comments wasn't trashing the Mystics I don't believe, and even if she was so what?
