I’m watching Undisputed on FS1 I’m sure a few of y’all in here watch as well and there is a topic where Kyle Kuzma says Andre Drummond has never been “coached up” What are some thoughts on that?

Why is Sanogo so effective with the ball in the low post and Whaley, Carlton not? Some of the onus has to be on the players themselves.

Drummond needs to coach himself, he knows what he can't do in games. Look at film, get specific help on technique, do hand/eye coordination stuff. In college he looked lost, imagine him trying to hard hedge in a Hurley defense, he would be next to Carlton on the bench.

If Andre played with any sort of discipline or motor he’d be one of the best players in the NBA. Playing with someone like Lebron who can actually hold him accountable can do wonders for his games.

Motor has always been his biggest problem, when he's motivated he totally dominates. He can get 18 rebounds in his sleep.

Andre is so athletic he thrives in hard hedges, actually. You remember when he picked DWade's pocket on consecutive possessions his rookie year?

It's a lot of the other stuff on defense that he struggles with. When to switch, when to help, etc.

Andre is not a smart player and that’s being kind. He’s going to help the Lakers so much especially when lebron and Davis are back. They could be scary. He’s been coached but he’s never played with a good pg in the nba.

He's arguably the worst finisher in the NBA. I don't think that's motor. He just struggles to put the ball through the basket.

Prior to joining the Lakers, Drummond had the worst field goal percentage from the restricted area (51.9%) of anyone in the NBA that attempted at least 200 field goals from there.

Who the heck is Kyle Kuzma to say that?

It is good to see UConn fans pile on a former Husky because of the ignorant bleatings of a third tier NBA nobody.

Is that we're doing? I don't care what Kyle Kuzma has to say. I love Dre, he's a great rebounder, but he's not a great NBA player.

He's a physical freak, but it was obvious when he got there that he (and his HS coach) had pretty much coasted on his athleticism and hadn't developed much in the way of skill. That didn't change over the year he was here, and I'm not surprised to hear it's been more or less the same in the NBA.

Yeah. But Drummond is so weird because he may have another decade or so left in the tank and may have some crazy stats/HOF level stats in some situations when he hangs them up despite being an average NBA player.

Agreed. He's one of the most intriguing players in the league.

Yup. Its very weird. He's been traded for a second round pick, then he had to pick up his option because nobody wanted him and then he got bought out because the Cavs couldn't find anyone to even trade for him...all despite being the best rebounder in the league and in his 20's.

People can talk about basketball without ball washing... just because they went to UConn...

With Lebron AD should thrive might as well just resign with the Lakers to a shorter deal.

From these comments I don't think some of you watch a lot of Drummond in the NBA. He's actually very skilled he just doesn't always know how to use those skills and inexplicably some games he does nothing, that part is the motor.

Especially this guy. Has he ever given it his best shot?

That's because his strengths are basically worthless in today's NBA, while his weaknesses are strongly emphasized.

He was only on campus officially for like 8 months, right? Not exactly a lot of time for coaching up.

His FG% is also artificially lowered because he plays volleyball with offensive rebounds. Counts as multiple low % shot attempts. But it's adding value because most guys wouldn't even be able to get to the ball in the first place.

It's like the short stop with a low fielding % because his range is high and he misses plays other people didn't even get to. What people would say about Vizquel vs. Jeter.

That's only part of it, obviously. He's not the best finisher in general either, but he's definitely not the worst in the NBA.

His problem is that players of his type are supposed to be elite defenders, hopefully being in a winning situation for the first time in his career is a motivator.

In a different era Drummond would be a perennial All-Star.

But because coaches and GMs have figured out a little thing called efficiency, he's closer to a punch line despite his decent to good counting statistics, especially rebounding.

Coaches and GMs are about 60% of the way through the math of efficiency. Expect the game to change a lot in the next 5 years as models get refined. Jacking a million 3's won't be the answer either.

What does the game look like when they're 100% through?
