Herbst is keeping UConn's options open. That is an act of great leadership. Her first loyalty is to the University. The conference is secondary. If the conference comes up with a great solution and no better one exists than UConn will stay in the BE. If a better solution exists than the BE for UConn than UConn leaves the BE. Its simple really. And she isn't lying about anything. Nor is she interfering with the BE action. Now its up to the BE to put up or shut up.

very true.... she is a great prez

Why is she a great prez? She's already walking back from her earlier pronouncements. That didn't take long.

Hey shhe is playing chess/ chicken with the acc and be... not easy

She walked into a mess, she has to play politics and keep options open.

She's doing a very good job, after perhaps saying too much earlier. No guarantee UConn gets an invite to the ACC, so the school has to work to keep the Big East strong while it's a member. But if the best the commish can come up with is East Carolina and Central Florida - leave the door open.

Walking back from what?

Going from snubbing a meeting with the Big East to having the BE commish saying your're committed is a walk-back, don't you think?

The BE commish is saying what he has to say. We didn't commit to then at the "snub" meeting and he said the same thing. Why is this surprising?

1. She got out the gate quickly when she became president.
2. She's decisive. She issue spots and takes action.
3. She is not afraid of controversy.
4. She's actively pursuing UConn's interests in conference realignment, not just waiting for things to happen around her.
5. She has a good relationship Calhoun.

I don't think she's walking back from anything. She pursued a spot with another conference after Cuse and Pitt left. She hasn't pledged to stay in the Big East despite pressure being applied her. She has agreed to work to build the conference as long as UConn remains a part of it. I can't think of anything more I'd have wanted out the president.
