Down Memory Lane: UConn Old Dominion Game From 2002 Elite 8 Is Available on YouTube

Ok, long time Yarders. Who was the male assistant coach for that team?
I believe his name was Jack Esserman and he was an assistant coach for a few years maybe when Tonya and Jamel left.

Jack Eisenmann is a friend of Geno's from the Philly area. He was DOBO for the UConn women's team from 2001-09, after which he was an assistant coach at Fordham for a year.

Before UConn, he was head coach of the men's team at the University of Ottawa for 12 years, and before that an HR manager in private industry mainly in Canada.

He's been a substitute teacher in Southington, CT, for the past 14 years.

Interesting footnote. I believe Old Dominion beat UConn in 1999. We forget how good they were in the day!
Old Dominion should've won the National Championship in 1997. I was at that Final Four in Cincy when they lost in heartbreaking fashion to Stanford.....who then went on to stink up the joint in the NC game against a 10-loss Tennessee team(but one that had Chamique Holdsclaw and Kelly Jolly, who returned in January from a torn ACL in record time).

I'm guessing that most everyone on the BY knows this, but just incase...
if you have a Google/YouTube account, you can make a Playlist and add your favorite (UConn) videos to it. This way, you don’t have to search for a game when you need to watch the replay. As far as I know, as long as the video is in the same place on YouTube, you will have it. For example, one of my Playlists is "2025 UConn Championship", which also includes the February game against SoCar along March Madness games.

I find this way easier than using my tv browser to type in the uconnhuskygames URL and navigating the website.

I think Dee backed down another defender, but Dales came over to help and committed the foul.
I was there. Great game. Epic shot to effectively ice the game. Uconn's Stacy Hansmeyer was a first year assistant OU coach as I recall. Ran into her in the elevator, as apparently we were staying at the OU hotel

I always thought it was the greatest compliment ever to DT to give a sophomore the ball on a clear out to win the NC. There were 3 future Olympians on that team and 4 first round draft picks but he chose her.

Alright folks: Let's compare the teams.

Don't forget to think about the opposition.
Lots of similarities too.
UConn style of play. "FastBreak basketball".
Only one thing is obvious when you watch that game. That truly was the best women's college team ever. Their inside game was tremendous and the interior passing by the 3 front court players was just exquisite.

Jerry Tarkanian at UNLV and Thompson at Gtown.
Tark rarely carried the towel, he had his managers place a wet towel on a couple of other towels under his chair. When his throat got dry from his yelling or when he was nervous he would reach for his towel and suck on it. He was asked why he didn't just drink water and stated that there were too many times that he spilled the water all over the place that the towels made it more convenient for him and the managers.
