Quinnipiac's awesome run this year made me wonder how often double-digit seeds reach the Sweet 16. It's happened about once a year since the turn of the millennium. Here's the full list of the 22 double-digit seeds to make it this far:

10 seeds (5):
1991 Lamar; Vanderbilt
2001 Missouri
2007 Florida State
2016 Oregon

11 seeds (10):
1996 Stephen F. Austin
2000 UAB
2002 BYU
2003 Notre Dame
2004 UC-Santa Barbara
2010 San Diego State
2011 Gonzaga
2012 Gonzaga; Kansas
2015 Gonzaga

12 seeds (4):
1996 San Francisco
2013 Kansas
2014 BYU
2016 Quinnipiac

13 seeds (3):
1994 Texas A&M
2005 Liberty
2007 Marist

Of all these teams, only two (#10 Lamar in 1991 and #11 Gonzaga in 2011) won again to reach the Elite 8. So, if Quinnipiac can pull off a big upset today, they'll make history as the first #12 seed to get there.

The lowest seed ever to reach the Final Four was #9 Arkansas in 1998. The lowest to play in a championship game was #5 Louisville in 2013.

Ugh. Make that 2017 for Oregon and Quinnipiac, not 2016, obviously. And it's time for an update already:

Of all these teams, only three (#10 Lamar in 1991, #11 Gonzaga in 2011, and #10 Oregon in 2017) won again to reach the Elite 8.
