That makes me nervous because all of Duke's McD's AA guards are making oodles and oodles of money in the NBA...........I mean look at uhhhh uhhhhh Chris Duhon for instance......Langdon, oops didn't make it, uhhhh.....well how about Ricky Moore's HS teammate, what's his name he had a great NBA career didn't he? Paulus? Wojo? Scheyer?..............

He's a real good college coach, wins a lot and runs a great program maybe the greatest coach and program for the last 25-30 years..........but the NBA pipeline isn't running from Durham!

Kyrie Irving begs to differ. But your point is taken. I bet a lot of people don't even remember he went to Duke, he's such an un-Duke-like player.

Yeah that's true, it will be interesting to see if Ollie can continue to live up to that top recruiter status the next few years though. Don't see why he couldn't though, he's been big time so far.

Not to be a dic, but we've only signed DanHam, it may be just me, but I'd like to have more than one kid signed from H.S. before I start calling Ollie a " top recruiter"

.... However, I'm hoping your right...

I'm no Duke fan but According to Wikipedia, there are 20 of their players in the NBA, Including Duhon. True, Duke players are typically overrated coming out of college, but Reddick has been a solid guy off the bench over the last few years. Brand, Boozer, Battier, and Deng have all had solid careers. Finally, against all odds, Maggette and Dunleavey Jr. are is still in the Association as well.

I came in this thread to make a snarky comment about not being able to spell 'Boatright' and now I'm confused, lost, and a little bit scared.

You gotta give him Purvis as well. 2 signings, 2 mcdonalds all-america. He's off to a damn good start.

One site the other day had the top 5 being us, Louisville, Kentucky, Kansas and Duke. Talk about a Heavyweight Title Fight. It's fun to see us in those discussions again.

which of course means that everyone here will spell it wrong and he'll actually become boatright!
Ehhh, if a new guy's name is misspelled but still spells the name of one our former players I vote for an allowable exemption.

Largely because he only played in eight or nine games and missed the entire ACC season. His career was a blip. Although I guess I'm glad that Arizona went gonzo on them in the second half, since he had just come back and perhaps could have been a handful to deal with in the Elite Eight.

Here's a list of school recruiting him from his AAU coach:
@trigonis30: Other major schools now hunt in for @TDORSEY_1 include Kentucky, Kansas, Arizona, UCLA, UConn, USC, St. John's, Florida, Wash & Gonzaga

Don't get me wrong, I think Ollie is doing a helluva job, I didn't forget about Purvis, it's just that a lot goes into the recruiting process when attaining kids from H.S. rather than a kid transferring.
I just don't want to put KO on a pedestal too quickly, he's only in his 2nd year, the first really if you include a "full" season with recruitment and such.
To crown him a top recruiter is a little too premature and unfair to Ollie

UCONN put in years recruiting Purvis while he was in HS and UCONN was his 2nd choice. He didn't just decide to transfer to UCONN on a lark.

William Avery!! But the point is well taken----Dookie NBA guys are usually 3s and 4s with some 4s having to play the 5. Excepting Redick and Irving no 1s and 2s that I can remember. Duhon also. Pretty poor record when you consider K is a former Army point.

I look at it two ways. The positive side of me says KO's accomplishments this season are nothing short of miraculous considering the drawbacks he had to face this recruiting season (apr sanctions with the handicaps of contact, no postseason, UConn in the AAC, UConns insistence on academic standards, Wolf losing scholie, and only 1 year under his belt). I had felt that this years recruiting was going to be neutral at best because of all this. I had hoped for a decent run in the NCAA's this season with the result that next season UConn would be getting all the love from top recruits and commitments from two or three top recruits.

The negative in me says KO's accomplishments on the recruiting trail are the result of a honeymoon phase in recruiting circles. He's still has the UConn legacy (JC) to draw attention to UConn's program.

My gut tells me that KO is accomplishing things because he's respected as a result of his past achievements in the NBA as well as garnering respect from people because of his work ethic and his ability to relate well with people.

Again you're telling me things I already know.... but those "years" of recruiting Purvis while in H.S. was Ollie the head of the program? No..... That's my point.... This is his first season as head coach, when you include the offseason..... I'm not sure how else to explain this to you

Agree with you 100%
I just didn't want everyone labeling him as a top recruiter, until he deserves the title.... In my mind I truly believe he is, but also feel it's a bit premature as well, that's all

I understood your point entirely. It would be premature. And failure to get anyone of the remaining top recruits UConn is going after would not be an indictment of KO being a bad recruiter either. But that won't stop some people from feeling otherwise.

With RP, DH and OC as a base next year we will be in great shape if KP even pulls in one of these big name kids we have been following for months. I mentioned this in another post- I would be very happy pulling in some under the radar kids that in the past have turned out to be as good or better then some of these blue clip players everyone is fixated on. If you get a top twenty kids they can make a big difference- but there is not much drop off between number 30 and number 60 in the top 100- it all depends on how you look at talent.

If KO is as good as JC in this area our future is bright.
