Wonderful news for Dorka and UConn fans everywhere, and a testament to Geno’s ability to develop “pro ready” players.
I can’t help but notice complaints coming from officials and/or fans of other schools directed at the W about players being cut over the past few days. Specifically, complaints about Bre Beal being waived by the Lynx and Alexis Morris being waived by the Sun, as if the teams in a hyper competitive league with limited roster spots somehow disrespected them.
In the W, there are only 12 teams and 144 roster spots. Only the very best survive. That includes Dorka and apparently Lou as well. Congratulations to both.

She hasn’t played well the past few seasons. But idk how Milic beat her out.
Who knows, maybe tanking for that overall number 1 pick for next years draft?….if I remember correctly a girl from Minny will be eligible for the draft…I heard she’s pretty good

I saw in the Star Tribune article that Dantas was a late 1st-round pick for the Lynx in 2012. That means that she must be getting rather "long in the tooth" -- probably in her early 30's by now. And she only averaged 5.8 points per game last year.
Going with youth (Dorka and Milic) rather than a veteran who is likely past her peak makes good sense to me. And I suspect that Dantas would be rather expensive in her salary cap hit compared to either of them.

Cheryl was asked about teams tanking a couple, three months ago and seemed very genuine in saying no team of mine.

WNBA is the big time when it comes to serious roster competition...........players that succeeded in college despite somewhat limited skill sets or inconsistent play are going to get cut regardless of their past reputations or accomplishments........on the other hand, sometimes it's just a numbers game with teams having limited spots open at a particular position...........I suspect that's not the last time we'll hear of those two players in the months ahead.....
This is somewhat the fault of ESPN commentators. They overhyped these players ad nauseum in college which gives fans a false sense of who they are as players. Listen, I hate to see anyone get cut, but Beal has 0 offense and didn't improve on that side of the ball hardly at all in 4 years at SC. She was touted as a "great defender" but got absolutely wrecked by Clark in the FF. As for Morris, you can't be a PG in the league without being a shooter....unless you're Courtney Vandesloot. And Morris, is no Sloot.

I am also not surprised these two got cut, and agree with your sense of the overhype in college. Beal was a good defensive specialist, but my impression is the W doesn’t have much room for defensive specialists. What does surprise me is that she was drafted as highly as she was. Did the W coaches get fooled by the hype too?
One last thought: Morris has a history of coming back from setbacks. She’s very tough and resilient. If she wants this career I suspect she’ll find a way back in.

I agree with your comments on Beal & Morris. What I was surprised with was the comments from their supporters that appeared to vilify the W for some type of conspiracy to deny these players an opportunity. In the case of Beal, it was a “sportswriter?” from Columbia. In Morris’s case it was the President of LSU. In both cases, the criticism of the W was ill informed and completely unwarranted.
The WNBA is a very tough roster spot to get and to hold on to. Some of the players that are kept or cut are so close in talent that the decision comes down to how well they fit into the team (chemistry). Some players in college are full of drama and quite frankly in the pro league they just don't put up with that.
As far as a team tanking a season to get the top pick goes I just don't see that as possible. The players that are there and the coaches especially can't afford to waste a year for something they still might not get. As a coach you have to put together a roster that can win together and sometimes that makes for odd combinations.

And better yet, why was she INVITED to the draft? It's just an all around terrible situation for Beal herself. I can admit that I don't like SC, but I know good players when I see them. Beal is a nice college player, but if she went anywhere else in college, she never would've been invited, nor drafted that high. SC is the golden child of ESPN right now, and rightfully so. They've been dominant, they have a dynamic coach, and they're in the biggest money making conference. But at some point, it has to be recognized what these players limitations are. This wouldn't happen in men's basketball and is a little bit of "our girls" syndrome on behalf of ESPN.

I like SC and respect the work Dawn has done. This last four years she built a team that dominated WCBB out of players that complemented each other really well, even if they weren’t all equally great. I’ve sometimes criticized Dawn’s in-game coaching but her team building is really top notch. So good, in fact, that even the W was willing to take a chance on her lesser players.
