Ok so during game Doris mentions that she feels that Shabazz missed Calhoun the most and would benefit the most from his return.... 20 some points 6 asst etc great game, As soon as game is over I see Shabazz run over and hug Calhoun,,, Wow I'm thinking Doris is one smart lady!! Then I get in car turn on radio and catch Joe D (I think) interviewing KO, and Joe says how Doris came up to him before game and asked who was the player that missed JC the most and would most benifit from his return....... Duh Couldn't help but Laugh,,,, She sounded like she really knew her stuff!!

Don't hate Doris for that. That's her job though it would have been nice to reveal where she got her information.

Well, she did some research and got the opinion of someone close to the situation to base the statement on. That she did not credit her source is less than stellar, but hardly unusual, I would bet.

I picked up on this too and was thinking the same thing

She got her info from Joe D.

Joe D mentioned on the post game show that Doris asked him the question as to which player would benefit the most from Calhoun's return. He told her Bazz.

Everything she comments on is based on research. How the heck is she going to credit sources after each point. That would be dreadful to listen to.

And loved seeing Bazz go right up to JC for the bear hug, which JC was very generous in giving back to Bazz.

No bear hugs for JC please or Blaney will be back for the BE Tourney......

All broadcasters who comment on players and their tendencies glean from reading and talking to a lot of people. I'm not sure it would have been edifying for her to have said. "In the opinion of the Husky play by play guy, Napier will benefit the most from Calhoun's hand back on the throttle. On the other hand the team manager thinks it's Drummond, and the public address announcer says Lamb"

she did her job

Last week she said that Blaney should be the coach after JC retires.

I dunno - Blaney may retire before JC does...

Blaney is a couple of years older than JC (although his current position involves far less stress than JC's).

One other thing to keep in mind is the automatic opinion by many that this will be a Bill Guthridge deal. Blaney was a collegiate head coach for a few years before JC became a collegiate head coach and Blaney has more than 20 years as a head coach under his belt while Guthridge first became a head coach when Dean Smith retired.

I would be stunned if Blaney remains on our staff after JC retires and I believe it is 50/50 at best that Blaney stays until JC does hang it up.

I would be surprised if Blaney made it to Calhoun's retirement. I'm thinking it became clear to JC this year that if he is grooming KO to replace him, Blaney's presence is an impediment to that happening. Not to mention, with Hobbs back (and Lefty to a degree) Blaney's presence is superflous, in that their are experienced coaches to be there if Burr throws Calhoun out or he has to miss a game.

I've been thinking a good deal about this also, and have come to the same conclusion as you have a few times. But then I keep thinking about how much Calhoun just likes having a peer and best friend around him every day, and that is probably a big part of what has kept Calhoun around this long. I just don't know if he would enjoy it as much without George there to relate to on a daily basis, and I think it would be more of a challenge for Calhoun without him. Even though, in many ways, it would probably be much better for the program and the rest of the coaching staff, and it would probably even bring out more from Calhoun himself because of that challenge, I fear that he would simply hang it up sooner if he didn't have George around. One possible, middle-ground solution here might be to give George a different position than Associate Head Coach. If Kevin is truly Calhoun's heir apparent (which I am not sold on), give that job to him and move George down the bench.

If Calhoun was thinking of elevating Ollie and moving George down the bench I would imagine George would retire...not out of anger but to make room. With that said, it's a reach to see that occurring. I agree with you that they are tied to the hip but also don't see Calhoun hanging it up if Blaney's not around. I see him sticking it out to make sure the transition goes smoothly; too much invested personally and emotionally.

When I first heard Doris say Bazz would have a good game I totally agreed. Bazz is deep and I feel he's been down on himself and feels he let JC down. I am not a big DB fan.. I will leave it at that.
