Yes the missed free throws were horrible but can people stop mentioning that when Donyell is discussed.

He did so may great things for the program.

Indeed. The eventual program success after that should render that disappointment to the dustbin of history.

I was at that game as a freshman. He was so much fun to watch.

I mean greatest UConn players ever. I don't care that Tyler Olander has two national championships and Donyell Marshall has zero.

Bit of a strawman to be honest. Donyell definitely gets too much of a short end of the stick because he didn't achieve what 6 other teams did. There are a lot of criteria to use to make a "top ten" list, but in a couple, he's absolutely top ten. Only had 9 first team all americans in our history. Donyell is one. Only had 9 or 10 significant contributors in the NBA. Donyell is one. Top ten career scoring average. And it definitely matters that the '94 team was the first really good team after the Dream Season. He was - by far - the best player (at the time) on his team that was one of the 2 or 3 best ever at UConn that did not win a championship.

I'm glad you said it. I actually meant to put this in my post.
I'm trying to remember if it was P.J. or which NBA coach said he may have done a disservice to Yell not letting him play his game and go outside more. The first half or so of his career, many coaches were still sticking to the philosophy that if you were a big you had to be underneath unless you were setting a screen.
I remember he and Okafor each having a game or two where they had like 14 or 15 blocks in a game at UConn, but only got credit for like 8 or 9.

There was a stretch of time when Donyell/Kobe B shared the distinction of most three pointers made in a NBA game. Then the Splash Brothers came along and rewrote the record books. Pretty impressive for a forward(non-guard)
