For those who have a subscription to read the Hartford Courant newspaper, Don Amore's column in today (Sunday's edition) . A terrific story of such a great television partnership with SNY Network and UCONN women basketball that ends on Feb. 22. Please read it if you can.

SNY's time has expired. It was a good "Regional Based" Sports Network, but with all of the Big National Networks looking to have Big Broadcasting Deals with Major NCAA Conferences and 100% exclusivity, small networks like SNY never had a chance. Big Business dominates now. Sadly, people like Meghan Culmo and Kara Walters are left, for the time being, without a job. But hopefully, Fox Sports will find a place for the 2 of them. Maybe Alan Best wick will find a place with them too. However, I don't think Gary Apple's future covering UCONN'S Women's Basketball is in the cards

Nice article. Made me very nostalgic …

I know SNY was not ideal for everyone, but at least it brought in a level of consistency and high production values. The thing I’m dreading the most about next season is how difficult it’s inevitably going to be to keep up with watching everything.

With streaming I'm going to miss recording the game, pausing it, rewinding it, etc. I'm really going to miss the pre game and post game shows. You know whoever broadcasts is not going to have the same quality we are accustomed too especially for the games against the weaker Big East Teams.

I love SNY coverage!
You can tell they really cared to present UConn professionally each and every show!
I'm sort of worried about the coverage our new partners are going to bring to the table!

I ran across this on my feed this morning, I hope it's allowed here (article via msn.com). I will greatly miss Allen, Meghan and Kara.

Thanks for that, very enlightening. A few remarks:

I didn't know that Meghan had done games on CPTV. Living in Virginia/Maryland, I didn't see many games and only remember Joey D'Ambrosio, and him just because I knew a little bit when I was in high school.

They mention 35 million viewers. I assume that's over the 211 games, which comes out to about 166,000 viewers per game. Take a look at the numbers for national broadcasts, and this number compares quite favorably. (Somewhere on the general board there's a thread with those numbers, but I'm coming up blank after a cursory search.)

I will miss Meghan, Kara, Gary, Allen, and Chelsea. I still miss Eric (whom I get for ACC Network games), Kerith, and Juistine (there was a Justine sighting on the sidelines of a recent game). Eric Frede is my favorite play-by-play announcer ever.

SNY did a fantastic job covering the games and also gave us pregame and postgame shows not to mention countless specials and game replays. Very sad that UCONN has let this happen as there will be many people unable to watch games now along with the shows that will not happen. A big thank you to SNY and their whole entire team. Hopefully we will at least see Megan on some broadcasts as Fox would be foolish to let her go, the best at calling games

I honestly think it'll be easier to catch games. That said I'll miss the SNY coverage. It was excellent, quite possibly unrivaled for any other women's basketball program.

This was a big east decision. The university had no say it.
