I'm not sure Spectrum has dropped SNY. I have Spectrum here in NYC, and a bunch of channels are unavailable today (including SNY) because of a service outage. I can't even watch my lousy Jets on CBS -- a blessing now that I think about it.

I live in Northern Vermont and the games are blacked out on ESPN3, makes no sense to me. Can someone explain to me why?

IF YOU HAVE (or are in an area that could have) SNY ON YOUR CABLE/Sling/Vue/etc:
The game is streaming on the NBC Sports App. You have to be a subscriber to SNY to watch it.

IF YOU DONT HAVE SNY:
The game is streaming on ESPN3.

It's blacked out in areas that offer SNY on cable.

The blackout only applies during the game, btw. After the game ends, the replay is available for everyone on ESPN3.

If you live in an area where SNY is on cable, it will be blacked out by ESPN3.

But you can easily get around that by temporarily moving somewhere else. There are plenty of weekly hotels and extended stay hotels that would be perfect for this application.

After the season, you can return to your home.
