Here are the top three winningest coaches and there totals.

1 Pat Summitt... 38 1098 208 .841
2 Tara VanDerveer 39 1036 242 .811
3 Geno Auriemma 33 1027 136 .883

Geno is only nine behind Tara. He could catch this year. Will he?

Will Geno pass Old Stone Face this year? Hmmm, let me see now.... I do believe it still wrangles Geno a bit that when Conn beat Stanford in the Final 4 in 1995 Tara, whooped on by some 29-30 points, said no way they beat Tennessee. The gross # is irrelevant. She's 9 National Championships behind the guy who is the Dean of WCBB Coaches.

First of all you'd have to assume that UConn wins ten more games this year than Stanford. I don't see that happening. Geno will come a few games closer but not pass Tara this year. I think this is a "wait til next year" event.

What he said. Stanford has been recruiting well lately - not enough to be a top 10 team IMHO, but close. Geno might win 4-5 more games than Tara this season, but not much more than that...

In a word, no. It’s too early to make a prediction of that nature. We don’t know how many wins Tara can squeeze out her team this coming year. Stanford will win at least 28 games this coming season. Geno is 9 games behind her. This means he needs to win 10 more games this season than she does. We don't know at THIS point, how many games UConn will win either.

If UConn plays 38 games (assuming they can get past the first two weekends. They should win at least 35 of them. If Stanford win 28, that's only a gain of 7 games. By the end of next year for sure. Plus 10 in the win column for UConn over Stanford this season, not a chance.

Of course UConn should remain undefeated in AAC league play. Any losses in the regular season should come in the out of conference (OOC) portion of the season. I look for UConn to maintain its dominance over the American Athletic Conference again this coming season. Business as usual.

Agree that it's more likely next year and then hopefully the following year passes Pat!
Just another feather in his cap!

Yep. But just.

I guess I am more optimistic. I say yes. I really believe UConn will have another amazing season next year. Watching some of the players put in so much work, has given me joy down in my soul. I can't wait for next season to come.

They were 24-11 last year, so maybe it's not quite as unrealistic as some expect. I think it will be close.

Last year, they had an uncharacteristically bumpy start... look back the last 10 years, no many 10 loss seasons ... usually only 5 or 6.

Geno could pick up 4 or so wins in the post season tournaments which would leave only a 5 or 6 win discrepancy required for the regular season - last season it was 9 games in the regular season and another 3 in the post season for a 12 win difference. Is Stanford going to be that much better and or Uconn that much worse?

Losing does not set well with Tara. I seriously doubt her team starts the season in a similar fashion this coming season. Stanford will be a much tougher opponent this season than last. I think Geno will catch and pass her by the end of the 2019-2020 season. ;)

If Geno had picked up just TWO more last season, I'd answer in the affirmative. I think Stanford will be better, but at least Oregon and Oregon State in the conference will challenge them. I'd guess that Geno picks up about 5-6 wins on Tara and will pass her the following year.

Geno is 71 behind Pat. That's feasible with 2 really good seasons.

I think 2019-2020 season. He deserves to go down in History as the most winningest coach in all categories, so I hope he sticks around to get several wins past Pat Summit. Wins, Win Percentage, and Championships he would lead in all. He's a special kind of coach that only comes around every few decades. Everyone is bias to their own coach, but a true fan of the sport can admit he is only of the greatest.
