Of course everything written should be proofread better than it is, but failing to hit the shift key on a left parenthesis is way down on my list of catastrophic errors. By and large, fact-checking is a more urgent need in most writing than proofreading for typos.

My brother is a professional editor/typesetter/proofreader, and he says that virtually every book in print contains typos.

D*mn auto-correct and/or auto-fill.
I don't know how many times I will be punching keys on my phone and then look up to see that my Microsoft Edge browser has inserted the word that they thought I was typing. Many, madly times I have missed the MS "correction".
