Could it happen this year with the AL East? The Sox are starting to slide a little, 4 games under .500 and about to enter September.
It has happened before:
MLB
1991 AL West
Minnesota 95-67
Chicago 87-75
Texas 85-77
Oakland 84-78
Seattle 83-79
Kansas City 82-80
California 81-81
Interesting to state that 4 of the 7 teams from the AL East were also over .500 for a total of 11/14 in the AL.
2005 NL East
Atlanta 90-72
Philadelphia 88-74
New York 83-79
Miami 83-79
Washington 81-81
NFL
2008 NFC East
New York 12-4
Philadelphia 9-6-1
Dallas 9-7
Washington 8-8
2008 NFC South
Carolina 12-4
Atlanta 11-5
Tampa Bay 9-7
New Orleans 8-8
Interesting to note that the 2008 AFC East came close to being the THIRD division that year to do the same. There were two 11-5 teams, and a 9-7 team. Buffalo lost their last game to fall to 7-9. This was also the year that Detriot went 0-16, perhaps making the NFC East and South possible, they were a punching bag for the NFC, as well as the 2-14 Rams.
2007 NFC East
Dallas 13-3
New York 10-6
Washington 9-7
Philadelphia 8-8
Three of these teams made the playoffs.
2007 AFC South
Indianapolis 13-3
Jacksonville 11-5
Tennessee 10-6
Houston 8-8
Perhaps the best regular season division ever.
2002 AFC West
Las Vegas 11-5
Denver 9-7
Los Angles 8-8
Kansas City 8-8
2002 AFC East
New York Jets 9-7
New England 9-7
Miami 9-7
Buffalo 8-8
NBA
2015 South West
Houston 56-26
Memphis 55-27
San Antonio 55-27
Dallas 50-32
New Orleans 45-37
Perhaps the best regular season division ever. The Pelicans edged out the Thunder for the 8th seed.
2011 Southwest
San Antonio 61-21
Dallas 57-25
New Orleans 46-36
Memphis 46-36
Houston 43-39
Houston was the 9th best team in the west and missed the playoffs by 3 games.
