It is finally time for the Big Dance and that means it is time for Dishin & Swishin to convene its annual pre-NCAA tournament roundtable!

We have an outstanding panel today, with a slight twist. Not only is there the usual array of outstanding journalists, but we have added a legendary coach to give a different perspective of things. The participants are:

Doug Feinberg, Associated Press national women’s basketball writer
LaChina Robinson, ESPN analyst
Debbie Antonelli, ESPN analyst
Lin Dunn, former NCAA and WNBA head coach

When this group got together, along with host and moderator David Siegel, the conversation was so enjoyable and informative that we need to break it into two parts! Part one airs today, with part one being released tomorrow.

Listened to all of it. Interesting. I don't agree that Princeton isn't good enough to go far though. The last game was not representative of how they played earlier in the season. Michelle Miller and Tarachian play a lot better than that but it seemed like different players stepped up as needed. Dietrick was the constant throughout the season. They may be ready to peak during the tournament. They don't have any injuries etc.

First thanks for listening.

I would love to see Princeton advance, but winning on the #1 seed's court with such talented guards like Lexie Brown is going to be a very difficult task I feel.

Interesting as always, and at least Dunn didn't question whether everything was a bore in the WCBB with UConn being so good, and she really nailed Doug when he didn't do his homework about male coaches.

1. Doug says Princeton has a 0 chance of getting out of the first weekend after saying they're underseeded? Massey predicts MD by only 72-65 if they meet, so chances are maybe not so bad.
2. Doug and others were wondering why USF got such a great seed compared to the Big East's two teams? Can we say that USF is rated #12 in Sagarin and DePaul is at #26, so they may both be badly underseeded, but if anything DePaul could be too close to USF.
3. Again, Doug's "someone told me" remark about the male coaches is just very bad. Best to look up your own facts and see that there were more than two dozen other male coached teams in the other regions. Not that hard.
4. Dunn thinks that Stokes comes off the bench on nights and leads the Huskies in scoring? Hard to tell the difference points and blocks and rebounds, I guess.
5. All the women agree that Louisville comes out of Tampa in pod play, while Doug obviously has his doubts. We'll see in a few days.
6. Comment on South Carolina rising up among the top teams and getting exciting because of all the talent they have coming in. Who would that be? Don't see any USCar recruits listed for HoopGurlz Top 100.
7. Ohio State has the best back court in the country? Really? Sounds like one for a poll. KMitchell at 41.6% shooting and more turnovers than assists. I don't know. Anointing her the new Jackie Stiles seems premature since Jackie shot 53% in her career.
8. Hadn't heard that one about Sylvia H. imitating Kim with the jacket into the stands "I'm mad" routine. One to watch in the Tourney.
9. Doug definitely the one who's allergic to chalk. UALR over Texas A&M.
10. LaChina and the rest of the panelists seem to actually watch a lot of WCBB games. Wondering what their ratio of games watched to the average of one of the 12 committee member's. 3:1? 4:1? 5:1? Higher?

I don't think Maryland's going to get past NMS.

I really don't think Maryland has played anyone as balanced as Princeton. They lost big to ND. Princeton's better than ND IMO.

Of course LaChina and Stephanie have seen a lot of games. They announce games all season.

I believe the comment about the Male Coaches is that the BEST Male coaches are in the Albany Region. Geno, Jeff Walz and Matt Mitchell to go along with Jose Fernandez

I guess, but outside of Geno, there's always some discussion about who the best male coaches are. Gary Blair, Jim Foster, Scott Rueck and all of the hot new young guns who have pushed their teams up into the rankings are are likely giving a smirk over comments like these and are glad for a chance for their teams to show their stuff in the regions that supposedly are just a testosterone wasteland. We know Geno was the subject of the same dismissive remarks when he was on the way up.

Still seems like a weird and kind of chauvinistic subject to highlight a WCBB discussion. Isn't it women who are playing this game, not a bunch of older males? Isn't it the women who are shooting the ball and the ones doing a dog pile at the end of a game?

Dobbs, IMO you're reading too much into it. It was just a little more light hearted banter as Debbie was getting heated about Arkansas and some of the seedings.

I doubt seriously that McGuff, Neighbors, or any of the other male coaches I've had on the podcasts gave it a second thought.

Oh yeah, when I say "highlight" I really just mean it came at the top of the discussion, and that is at least partly because Albany was discussed first, and maybe it was just a fun banter ice-breaker with a guy and a woman having a little fun about the gender issue. But if you notice on the BY, the subject has reached an urban legend "grassy knoll" intensity about attempts to segregate the men that seem to me to be over the top considering the dominant numbers of men as coaches among the Tournament teams these days.

This is true, and you're right, I probably shouldn't have mentioned it so early in the podcast. Should have thrown it in later, but yes, that was the first region we started with.

Now in part two, we really get into the seedings and Arkansas issue in particular.

Enjoyed that - don't really mind about the minutia, just fun listening to p-retty good analysts discussing the tournament.
