All things considered, this has been a good week for Duke women’s basketball and coach Joanne P. McCallie. Yesterday, they landed four recruits that as a group is ranked number two nationally by Blue Star Report and number three by the Girls Basketball Report. This morning they had two people named to the Naismith Award preseason watch list. Finally, the team that has been fighting the remnants of injuries dating to last season will open their season on Saturday, having had some extra recovery time.

The key question surrounding the Blue Devils, however, is if that is enough recovery time. It is a talented but young team, with only one senior. The injured players will determine if this team will be making a trip to New Orleans come April.

Even if the injured players are recovered by the end of the year, the other thing that will determine whether they go to New Orleans is if their NCAA seeding.

If they lose out on getting a #1 seed, they stand a 50% chance of falling into either Baylor's or UCONN's bracket, and they ain't gettin' to the Big Easy that way! ;)

The health plays right into that though; if they are healthy, they can run the ACC pretty well.

I saw someone complaining about Duke's schedule in Voepel's chat today on ESPN, they don't realize the ACC has gone to 18 conference games, eliminating two OOC ones.

If healthy, Duke should go 18-0 in the conference...... if not healthy... Duke should go 17-1.

Ignorance is bliss

Healthy is one thing - when they become healthy is another.

The first test in the ACC wont come til Feb 11 when Maryland comes to Durham. With the expanded league schedule... conference games begin in December. We get GaTech at home the first week of Dec...... perhaps they are better then they showed vs TENN... but I feel very confident in that matchup.

I agree with you about the first real ACC test; Devils match up really well with Tech IMO.
