Lindsay Gottlieb, the head coach of the Cal Bears, took a winding path across the country to get to her dream job. From the snow of Brown, Syracuse, and New Hampshire, to the mild temperatures of Richmond, to beautiful Cal and then Santa Barbara, Gottlieb finally landed the head job at Berkeley after her mentor Joanne Boyle left for Virginia.

Now in her second season, Gottlieb is the first coach in Cal program history to win 20 games in her first season. With Stanford having a team that might not be as strong, at least on paper, as recent years, preseason pundits had Gottlieb’s Bears a legitimate challenger for the Pac-12 title

Two of my sisters graduated from Cal...I'd like nothing better than to see them compete with Stanford...

Very impressive coach. Love the balanced attack and focus on defense. She talked about how difficult it is to single out UConn players for individual awards, and how that is something she'd love to see at Cal.

I think they are going to be an interesting program to watch for the next few years, to see how it develops.

And Brittany Boyd is a special talent.

Cal is definitely improving. I like Lindsay a lot, plus she has two former Stanford players (and a coach) on her staff, Charmin Smith and Katy Steding (who played on first NC team with Azzi).
