So today on Dishin & Swishin, we put a bow on the NCAA season, and celebrate the national champion Connecticut Huskies, with three of the “UConn horde” as they are affectionately known, the large contingent of print media that covers UConn for their respective newspapers.
Carl Adamec of the Manchester Jounral Inquirer is the “Dean of UConn writers” having covered the Huskies since 1989, longer than Gampel Pavilion has been in existence. Adamec has been to every NCAA tournament game coached by Auriemma and Dailey.
Rich Elliott of the Connecticut Post has “only” been covering UConn full-time since the 2002 championship season. Not a bad gig when the first team you cover full-time is considered the best of all-time, with Sue Bird, Swin Cash, Asjha Jones, Tamika Williams and Diana Taurasi.
Roger Cleaveland of the Republican-American completes our Huskies roundtable for the week. He covered some games in 1995 and attended every Final Four since 1996.
Together, the contingent has seen more championships hoisted and top draft choices run fast breaks than just about anyone, so who better to frame the 2013 UConn Huskies in a historical context?
From the emergence of Stewart, the “what-its” about Baylor, to where does this team stand among Auriemma’s championship teams, it is a great discussion to wrap up the college season.
