I understand some things are beyond our control as a program:
- Coach leaves so we only have an interim coach
- Many players are transferring out and opt not to play
- Bitter cold of Fenway Bowl
- Fenway Park is absolutely atrocious to navigate during halftime
But all that being said, for loyal fans, who spend their mornings digging their cars out of the snow, and then driving 2.5 hours to Boston, just to watch their team get totally shellacked, while the concourses are absolutely mobbed, bathrooms and food lines are impossibly long...
It just isn't a great experience as fan. I support my program the best I can, but I am not sure I'd do that again.
I purchased tickets online through Stub Hub. Didn’t want to be near home plate because view of field is horrible, so got some near 50 yard line. As of 2:00, tickets never delivered.
Dealing with Stub Hub, they offered me upgraded seats, at home plate for same price…. So on the T, headed to game, ended up buying tickets off UConn literally at home plate, just to get in. All tickets at that point were $150 each. Very frustrated, and set tone for day.
Missed first quarter, but got in with about 10 minutes left in half.
First impression walking in, thought fan turnout overall was pretty good. Wasn’t a sellout, but Fenway had to be happy with sales. From where I sat, crowd was a good balance.
With each play, Army just pounded any will to fight out of the UConn defense. The players didn’t want to be there, and the fans were just listless because this game harkened the RE2.0 era where you knew the outcome before the game started.
I was on record of being apathetic for this game. Son being in Army but UConn fan convinced me to go. He is not a fan of the ‘ring knockers’ as he referred to Westpoint. I left game thinking I could have gone to casino lost $200 and had a better time.
This game put UConn in bad position during a tough transition time. It showed how little our win over UNC meant to the broader college football world. We became UNC and Army became us. A team and fan base very excited to be there.
I give credit to UConn fans, they did show even though most knew deep down, this was a bad matchup with a depleted team.
Cam is a beast. Guy played awesome. It was pretty much Cam show on offense until he was basically pulled in 2nd half.
Hope he stays. Farrar(?) had some flashes. Not sure he’s the future, but he has some talent. Just looked like a kid who hasn’t seen much action and was out of sync with offense. Murphy looked quick as usual.
Although my son will say different, I have respect for those cadets. But, they are chippy and borderline dirty.
Saw one player get kicked in head after play. Maybe it was accident. But ask #2 on defense how he feels. By the second half, kid on Army was just bullying him. Would still be blocking, holding, hitting him 5’seconds after play was over. Right in front of ref who didn’t seem to care.
Last note, walking out, we’re next to the band on the street. Every head was down, deflated and miserable. Someone from Cask and Flagon steps yelled ‘f the coach’ and everyone in ear shot nodded and laughed for second.
Asked one of the drummers how far they had to walk, he said ‘I have no idea where we’re going’…. Just another tough look for UConn, watching the band slink back to busses having to walk 2-3 blocks.
Overall, this wasn’t Wasabi of 2024. Experience was what I expected and probably should have gone to Encore instead. Close out a great year with a whimper. The Mora era is dead!
Looking forward to Candle and some continued stability with program.
