Good point. We just need to convince Dodd that we have more than a marginal viewer base in NYC and Hartford/New Haven markets. Combined that with the increased viewership (not just football) we'll get from playing the likes of Texas, OU, Baylor, TCU etc...will only help us in those markets. Obviously, we don't make the most sense geographically, but out of the viable options (I exclude Houston because no way, no how does Texas let another Texas school into their conference) we have the larges TV markets by far. So that translates to more eyeballs which equals more ad revenue for CBS and more money for the BIGXII network. I get that's a lot of speculation, but I believe that UConn will garner a lot more interest not only in football, but basketball as well which just solidifies us as the 6th borough

Gee, is that all? I thought it was going to be a harder row to hoe... UConn needs a national voice on their side. Like Dimauro asked, How did Cinci morph into THE Ohio State University at Cincinnati?

I must preface this post with kudos to Mr. DiMauro on a fine piece of commentary. Here's the rub, The Day is a small regional newspaper with a circulation barely in the low 6 figures and Dimauro has about 2,500 followers. Accompanying these minor tidbits, Mr. Dimauro's twitter handle is BCGenius, which flies in the face of a pro-UConn article. How now (Brown Cow) does the theme of the column permeate the National discussion as far as realignment is concerned, especially in the seats of power in Norman, Austin, Lawrence, (and of course) Morgantown?

No article makes a difference one way or the other, but I'm happy to our local guys getting our point of view out there. Just by being linked on the Boneyard will get it spread to other fan bases.

Football. Look at the success they've had since Dantonio, not just on the field but coaching hires. Kelly, Jones now Tuberville. They've had over a decade of success with catching under the radar really good coaches minus Tuberville. I think if UConn has a relatively successful season on the field (8+ wins, competitive losses) then the narrative is going to change from questioning why to question why not.

It must really be the general consensus in your part of the country that Texas is southern.

Google maps of US regions. On most, if not all, you will see that Texas is in the Southwest. Not the South.

I haven't read the whole article but I have no doubt he's right on every other count and that midwest and southwest journalists are provincial. In fact, they're pretty awful for the most part.

But it is ironically and delightfully amusing to commit such a regionally-ignorant faux pas while accusing others of being "provincial."

Dude the only thing north of us is Canada and a bunch of weird talking Patriots fans.

Don't take the "Southern" label seriously.

You're right. A 650 word column in a regional newspaper out of the wrong corner of a state trying to identify with the New York City DMA is sure to get the same exposure as a piece on a national platform (ESPN, Fox, CBS, et al). What was I thinking?

I don't mean to come off as glib (this time at least. I consider you one of the more intelligent posters here, 82.), but last time time I checked, the Interwebs be a mighty big place and even the Wheels of the Boneyard churn pretty slow. That is all I was saying.
