On a wide ranging interview with the Big Show on WEEI this afternoon, the hosts asked BB if he had ever considered coaching in college and he said when he was DC with the Giants he had applied to UConn to be the coach. Tom Jackson was chosen over him.

Perhaps UConn football is doomed from the Curse of Belichick? For those who believe in that sort of thing, anyway.

Belickick didn't blosson until he became DC under Parcel in 85. Jackson took over from Nadzak in 83 (internal promotion) and won Yankee Conference first year.

Are you sure it was internal? I'm pretty sure that Jackson came from Penn St.

He went to Penn State and played for Paterno but he was UConn Offensive Line Coach from 78-82 and then Head Coach from 1983-1993.

BB must have been a position coach in NY when he applied.

Naaa...having a man who ended up winning 5 Super Bowl rings as an NFL coach in some capacity apply for a job at our school can't be too bad. Except that we didn't hire him. Also went to Wesleyan, an old Little Ivy rival that used to dominate us back in the days. This will add to our history in New England football lore.

Not to be "that guy", but your Wiki edit says, "...but was eventually turned down in favor in an internal hire, Tom Jackson." You should change that to "...in favor of an internal hire, Tom Jackson."

I wouldn't normally go there, but it's Wiki, and I want UConn to look its best there...
No idea how I made that mistake. Must be catching HFD-itis.

Should this be added to our Wikipedia write-up?

Yes. It gives us more "football culture." The ACC will appreciate that.

It's probably for the best. We would still be under probation for various video-gate related offenses. ;)

As opposed to the self-imposed probation we might as well be on with this staff.

I like to think that we are just giving other teams a handicap.
