I'm going to say "no." 14 losses, didn't make the SEC Final, and got blown out in the Elite Eight. Most losses in history. Embarrassing meltdown in the fourth quarter against- seriously?- Syracuse. Losing a star, with no great recruits coming to the rescue.

I'm guessing that Tennessee cuts ties with her this week. Your guess?

She'll survive. Her team almost didn't make the tournament.

She will still be in place..... because the Elite 8 is a resounding success for the Tennessee program...... As long as Holly can keep hitting that mark, she will stay in place IMO......

Too bad for them, with SC's loss, the road was wide open for them to drive the bus through.

If TN would have lost in one of the first 2 rounds she might have been gone but with getting to the elite 8 she is secure for at least 1 more season.

Thankfully, I think she made it thru to another season and then some. Making the elite 8 is a great accomplishment for any team. The AD will be satisfied and Tenn's 2 wins over ASU and OSU masked the other larger problems with her and the state of the program. I actually hope she gets a 5 year extension...

I'm not so sure. This makes 8 straight years that Tennessee hasn't been to the Final Four. And four of those years of no-shows are on Wharlick. Keep in mind that they're looking at continued poor performance next year and in future years due to lack of recruits and the loss of the few stars they have. Tennessee's fan base expects national championships, they expect Final Fours, they expect top rankings. But they're not ranked nationally, they were seeded just 7th, and lost to a team that had never been to a single Final Four.

I'm guessing that Tennessee's AD doesn't want this growing headache on his hands. He'll have to deal with Wharlick sometime. Does he want the fan boards to light up for another year with "Fire Wharlick!"? Will he be criticized for doing nothing while the program languishes? And for Tennessee, is the cost of a (negotiated) buy-out cheaper than falling ticket and TV revenues? And what happens if kids announce over the next few days that they're leaving Tennessee? That will put even more pressure on the AD. No cavalry to the rescue.

I think she's on a much hotter seat than we realize. I'll be watching for movement in the next several days. Remember, if they want 2017 recruits, they'll need to start signing kids in the next several weeks. A quarter of 2017 HS players have already signed. Oh, and the top recruit in Tennessee is going to- ahem- Connecticut.

Just sayin'...

What is the most important thing to a program, making the SEC finals, or the NCAA final?

Give her a break, especially when they were on the verge of not even qualifying for the tournament.

I had them bowing out in the 2nd round as the majority. But they played hard and exceeded everyone's expectation.

I would say yes she earned a keep.

However, their recruting is suffering and that doesn't look good at all.

The magic question: who's a better and viable alternative?

It is not the prime job it was four years ago. Or even two years ago. A new coach will have to contend with a poor reputation among the fans, among HS recruits, dissension among the current players, and the weight of expectations built by Summit. Tough. But the money will entice someone...

For this cast of players, it was a significant achievement to make it this far in the tournament. Remember a few weeks ago, we were watching them slide the other way. The game against Syracuse probably gave them a lesson on how a team with a lot fewer stars can beat you with teamwork and effort. How far will they go next year?

I think for almost any other program, this would have been a success. But keep in mind that the Coach of the Year Award carries the name of Pat Summitt. So not too bad, or did better than it looked as though they would do, or, hey, they made the tournament, just doesn't cut it at a storied former program like Tennessee.

The athletic department has a different focus now. HW is not Pat, and doesn't get the same vibe or resources as Pat did. As long as they aren't a laughing stock and they don't lose lots of money, she will be safe. Getting to the Elite 8 was a step forward for them.

Are you trying to convince us or yourself? You have claimed you think she's gone. About 5 of us disagreed and gave you various opinions as to why. But you keep giving us your reasons as to why you think she's gone.

Let me put it a different way. Given that the team lost 13 games in the regular season, the time to axe her would have been then - and right around the time DD's dad was tweeting nastiness towards Holly, and the word was DD would be gone if Holly stayed. Flash forward 3 weeks, or whatever, and the team makes it to the elite 8. Sure they get blown out, but given where they were 3 weeks ago, this is like Christmas morning for the AD. It would be expensive to buy Holly out. Who would want to take over that train wreck? The University puts little effort in to the WCBB program and is MUCH more concerned about football. I would say the elite 8 was a home run for Holly's tenure.

Well, we're going to find out, aren't we.

Syracuse has to be the hottest team I've ever seen in person. They may have had one of the best Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight series other than UCONN in history.

UCONN has some competition in the Final Four this year if all those teams stay hot.

Holly has my vote to stay.
