Watching the game on espn3 it sure looked to me like Calhoun was talking with the ref and arguing a little. They were done talking/arguing and Calhoun came back on the court and it looked like he asked the ref to T him up.

Someone mentioned he may have dared the ref to give him a T

He def didn't ask for it. Camera caught him mouthing "great job that's 1 duck**** point" and holding up his index finger at the ref after the free throws.

Watching from a few rows behind the bench, I didn't even see it or many others around me neither. You usually see it coming.

There are magic words that will get a coach a technical every time. He doesn't have to yell them. If he made the T sign, I didn't see it, that would also be automatic.

It was before. That's why I interpreted it as a dare. He made the signal towards the ref, turned away, and then turned around to say one more thing, which resulted in the T.

I was watching him when it happened from several rows behind the bench.

He gave the ref the T sign, the ref said something back to him( which I was guessing to be, say one more thing and you will get a T), Jimmy turned back to him, said something, and then the ref T'd him up.

There is no doubt that Calhoun got that T intentionally to fire the team up. I'll buy the arguement that its somewhat an inadvertent reflex for him to get frustrated beyond belief when the team is lacking fight or fire and that frustration boils up into a technical. But either way he's got the emotional pulse of the team in mind and they feed off it.

Or maybe he read the thread "The Art of the Technical Foul" on the boneyard and decided to show Blaney how its done!

Just like in Hoosiers. Can we expect to see Coach throw the ole picket fence at them next game?

great quote in AP from calhoun with respect to the technical foul: "When that did happen, I told (my players), 'If you aren't going to fight, they may throw me out of here, but I'm going to fight.'"

i would literally pee myself if calhoun and i met in a dark alley.

I'm willing to bet Jimmy C earned that technical with a few choice words.

It really amazes me how powerful a technical can be.
