Diana Taurasi - Azzi hype woman

Diana was on video a couple days ago saying "Azzi was the best shooter she ever saw" That was a bold statement.

I had to think about that comment for a little while and maybe Dee is correct.

Maya was an excellent shooter too. It's a tough call.

“When you get to the WNBA, if you have two guards that can pretty much do everything — defend, pass, shoot the three, get to the paint — then we’re talking about building championship DNA,” Taurasi said.

I was initially skeptical of Dallas using the first pick for Azzi, but the more I've thought of it, the more I've come to Diana's viewpoint. Some of that is that I've come to the opinion this season that Betts isn't a post player to build a team around. The combination of Paige and Azzi is, as D said, something to build a championship around. Pick up a good free-agent post player and build around her, Siegrist, Fudd, and Bueckers. And lose Ogunbowale.

The way Dallas’ cap space is going to work out, Arike almost has to go if they are going to get a good post and wing in free agency. Those 4 lottery picks will weigh heavy on Dallas’ cap space with the increase in lottery pick salary. I once thought Arike might stay. Now? I really don’t, especially with the salary Arike is sure to demand.

I’d like her to go. While both Paige and Arike tried their best to work together, I don’t see their playing styles as compatible. And of course, I’m biased for Paige.

I've been of this opinion for awhile. Azzi will make an immediate impact, especially next to Paige.

However, in Lauren's favor, I have to admit she has improved her quickness down the court and has developed an elbow jumper. Her post moves are still only as good as they have to be to score over smaller players. That should change with experience, but it does suggest that she won't make an immediate impact.

If Dallas were willing to hang on to Yueru, then Lauren would represent only an incremental upgrade, not a game-changer. On the other hand, Lauren's career ceiling is probably much higher than Yueru's.

Yueru can put up a few 3 pointers and stretch the defense while Lauren can’t . The post center is yesteryear’s scheme. All player needs to be able to play at least 2 positions if not more.

This is very true. I’ve always liked Yueru’s game. She just needs to find a team that knows how to use her. That wasn’t Dallas last season, but it could be Dallas this season. Plus, apparently she really likes playing with Paige. Of course, who doesn’t?

I actually think that she's had these fine skills since high school, it's just her gaining confidence to be able to do things in the game. Remember the short J from the corner in traffic. Imagine her taking 25 shots a game with half of them in traffic. My analogy is Steph Curry. Curry wins MVP's. She met Paige at those USA camps. They're obviously friends (duh) but they are also equals. She's at the top of the food chain, with lions and wolves. I think bigs are a dime a dozen.
